Targeting and Tracking System: Starlight Seeker LX-4K with C3, Special Targeting Computer
Overview:
Part of the Draconis rearmerment project. the Panther II is an
upgrade to the tried and true Panther. with the clopsing of the clan
wars, and reports of modern battlemechs in the field. Draconis
engineers noticed a startling, and supprisingly obvious trend in
modern mechs. they've turned towards higher and higher use of
technology, usually at the cost of survivability. thus draconis high
command issued the following design. the Panther II.
Capabilities:
the Panther II sports an increased chassie weight. by increasing
the weight, more armor could be mounted, and more equipment. this
means a more protected design. the chassie is constructed of the same
material as the original Panther 9R, meaning its easier to obtain and
cheeper in the over all design. covering this is a shell of Type 3
Starslab armor, also an easier to produce and obtain material. [HARD
RETURN]under this shell are several updated parts. starting with the
brand new Streak SRM 6 missile launcher, that provides the latest in
guided missile technologies. there is a single ton of amunition,
protected in a cased ammo bay, and providing 15 shots. most believe
this sufficent.
like the original, the Panther II mounts a right arm mounted PPC,
but the Panther II mounts the ER variant. while this caused problems
with the original panther, the expense was spent to mount double
strength heat sinks, providing more then enough heat capacity to make
the ERPPC usable.
a new feature to the panther line is the inclusion of a C3 system
and a ECM suit. the modern battlefield has proven both systems
extremly effective. the C3 allows for impressive unit cordination,
that falls inline with modern tactics. and the ECM provides the
ability to jam survalence or counter enemy ecm.
the true secreat of the Panther II is an experemental
reproduction of the clan targeting computer. thou the federated
commonwealth has already perfected a model, DC engineers have found
it difficult to gather a specimen. so the revearse engineering began
on a captured masakari's targeting computer. do to its experimental
nature, the target computer of the DC at this time can only be
mounted on a single weapon. thus only the Panther II equips this as a
standard production item. to provid in field feed back, to unlock
further secreats.
Variants:
only one known variant exists. this is the Panther II 9S. this is
seen as the lead unit varaint. this variant removes the Streak SRM 6
in favor of a C3 Master, which is mounted in the left torso. in
addition, the C3s was also removed, allowing a BAP to be mounted
center line.

I would have to agree with Sir Henry. A 45 tonner with a slow movement. Is asking to be blown apart.
Dump the C3 and the EMC a increase the speed.

The "original" Panther is 35 tons and 4-6-4. Isn't a bad mech against other lights and mediums, but like most lights totally outclassed by heavies and assaults.

all medium mechs. all moving 4/6 or 4/6/4.
about half, of those a great mechs.

As a fire support unit it`s ok, just like
the original Panther. For most other duties
it plain sucks. Long-range energy weapon as
primary, but mounts ammo-dependent secondary
weapons? I never understood where the idea came from. I would have mounted a couple of Medium Lasers as backup weaponry.

I prefer to get rid of SRM's & MG's too !
If possible i substitute them with more armor and/or jumpjets.
