Another simple question brought to you by your local pointless-topic-guy!
The notion that an idea is better than the end product is something we are all familiar with in modern society, so is there any mech that despite all the reviews and praise it seems to get, has never worked out for you? No matter how and where you have applied it? Be it because of lucky hits, poor rolls, or just generally a poor performing mech.
For me, it has to be the Thunderbolt, its not a bad mech don't get me wrong, its never performed awfully for me, but its never done half as well as it should, its always lacked decent knock out punch. Which looking at its stats should seem a lie.
you go!

For me, it has always been the Timberwolf.....although a impressive weapons load. It has never came through for me. Overheats way to much. none of the configurations fit my fighting style. and it has to many crits...I know because whenever the armor is pierced (no matter the location). the other guy always gets more then a few (dang dice)

Grand Titan, because I just don't like it and TRO says that it can take Atlas (only with luck I would say ).

You mean to say the grand titan performs that bad? I've never used one yet but I would like to put it up against an atlas. As for the worst performing mech I've used I think it would have to be the jaggermech it blows up too easy. The only thing it's good for is to resupply the Rifleman with ammunition. _________________ A wise man speaks because he has something to say. A fool speaks because he must say something.

I wouldn't call the Jagermech overrated...its not very highly rated by most people at all. Actually, I kind of like it; as long as you use it properly it can be useful.
As for overrated 'mechs.
Stalker: Fearsome reputation, but slow as molasses, mediocre armor for its weight class, and only mediocre long-range weapons limits its usefulness to me. Definitely not a total bust, but still, I'd prefer a Battlemaster any day.
Shadow Hawk: Some people swear by this 'mech. I mostly swear at it.
Dragon: I'm a Kurita player for the Panthers and the Jenners. The Dragon never fit my style. Its mobile, but its weapons are long-range pea-shooters.
Commando: Another one people swear by and I swear at. The weapons are O.K., but I want jump jets.
Vindicator: Not bad, but falls so short of its potential for various reasons...O.K., mostly because of the LRM-5.
Catapult: Jump jets on an LRM boat??? Why?
Zeus: sub-par armor to the Orion and Thunderbolt, not particularly effective weapons loadout, and it runs hot, especially the PPC version. Can't compete with the Awesome in the 80 ton bracket.

Well, almost anything in 3025 era looks weak if compared to all-mighty AWS

I don't really know here... I can't recall ever having a 'mech NOT perform the way I wanted it to unless I made mistakes with it. But I'll say Daishi. Why? because it's so munchy it always rates an instant bullseye from all oposing 'mechs. Sure it can dish it out, AND take it... but even with the thick hide it has I've yet to see it withstand the firepower of an entire company, which is about what usually gets slammed into it. Never had a Daishi last more than 3 rounds in a large match.

Off the top of my head, I would have to say the Zeus. For the flagship Lyran symbol assault mech, the thing sucks. Compared to most assaults, it is woefully underarmed. With the exception of the early Charger & Banshee variants, it ranks among the worst in my opinion. And at least the Charger has some speed to it. More often than not, I'd rather have a Mackie over a Zeus.

I'm gonna open a can of worms here....
Phoenix Hawk is imo THE most over-rated mech.

I disagree, but I'd like to hear your reasons, before I turn into Mr Hyde.

I agree. I feel that the Phoenix Hawk is over hyped.... let me explain before anyone kills me.
the Phoenix Hawk is a good mech. I have won battles in it that I don't think I could have won with other mechs.
HOWEVER, I have heard and seen commentary over and over again praising the PHawk as god's gift to mechwarriors. It is not that good. I remember once listening to a kid at Northeastern go on and on about how he took out three assaults.
And thats the problem.
The phawk is a solid dependable machine, but people take luck, or good rolls, or divine intervention, and turn the phawk into a miracle machine, which it isn't.
Just my two cents. It is a great mech, just over hyped. I find a lot of the Formally Unseen are like that.

I understand what you're saying...it definitely has a clearly defined role. Main-battle mech it is not. Hit and run raider, scout, and harrasser, not to mention pursuit 'mech...there's none better.

The Enforcer, original and all later variants.
It looks OK on paper, but those 10 shots don't last an entire duel, much less a campaign. The energy armament is light for a mech this size. Later versions all have XL's and barely improve the firepower.
Yet the Davions love them. I can't believe they almost took out the CC pitting these things against Vindicators.
