In the game that Seraph and I were playing we used salvage. We have not had much of a chance to mix and match. Life has interfered our gaming schedule for a while.
(you may have noticed that my normal frequent posting stopped for a while.)

I use salvage, I've never had to use anything more than salvaged armour and ammo, though, miraculously.

I don't do many campaigns, but whenever i do, it always has salvage. As for the second item, yes i do. if you kill a clan Mech and need to replace a damaged component with something on said Clan Mech, then by all mean use the bloody thing. however, i do referee the replacing of IS parts with Clan parts on machines just because the pilots wants it.

I always enjoy looting and pillaging.
Haven't done many campaigns, though, so it hasn't really come up.

Depends on the people I'm playing with. Some people really get into the game, so they like it if I limit salvage to what they could really use. E.g, replacement limbs have to be undamaged to be salvaged. Otherwise, they're just scrapped for parts.
Now, with other people we just treat everything as fungible marks on a page. You have enough internal structure, armor, and myomer? Sure, you can replace that mech's arm... _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

Salvage is a merc's best friend. I like adding salvage to campaigns. It alters the game plan of the players slightly. If you know that rushing into combat may make your mech unrepairable then you will think of other ways to accomplish your goal than full frontal assaults.
I keep salvage rules as simple or as complex as the players want/can handle. With Oafman, since it's his first campaign, I handle all the details on the salvage and just let him make the decisions. Just like in real life. The CO cannot be bothered with every single detail. That's what non-com's are for!

They weren't destroyed so much as rendered in-operable. Well, that LCT-1M was pretty well scrapped. But we got a leg off it!

I play campaigns very infrequently, but when we do, salvage is one of the fun parts that seperates a campaign from a single scenerio, where everyone debates who gets what and what to do with it.

I´ve a WSP-1A in my unit called "Spare Parts Sally"! Cobbled together from bodyparts of 5 different disabled ones! I´ve painted the miniature with 5 different camo-patterns!

So far it is only 3. It has yet to actually see combat so I may have to add more parts later.
