Ok, Phase II of updating the Technical Readouts section is now complete. This phase covered updating the code for designing and submitting a custom design.
I would REALLY like help validating this section. If folks have time, try to create some freaky designs and try to break the code. But please put TEST in the name of the mech so I know not to Approve it.
The reason I'd like assistance here is I really really re-tooled the code for that. Essentially rewrote it in about 75% of the areas. So, with re-writes there are always the possibilities for mistakes. I'm hoping if some of you folks can submit TEST designs and try to find those mistakes, we can correct them.
We'll let the new rendering and design submission code work itself out for a few weeks before I add Level 3 equipment and other fun stuff.

Sure thing. One question though: What do you mean by "freaky" designs? Once I know, I'll put them in.

Just oddball stuff really. Something that may not make a good design but something that tries to "break" the system.

I'll try a quad design then. With weapons in the legs.

I did see something odd while entering the TEST quad. The design had an XL engine, but I forgot to pick it first. So I went to General and picked one after the weapons list was up. When I returned to complete distribution the engine was still listed as standard. The mech didn't violate the critical spaces since I had it calculated beforehand, but I submitted it without the XL engine's crits filled.
Well, that meant I had to try a mech that actually violates the critical slot limit... A 40-tonner moving 6/9 with XL engine, FF armor, ES internals and only a massive AC/20 w 4 tons of ammo! It also has to allocate one DHS. This machine would have to drop the hands and lower arms in order to use an XL engine. I managed to enter it without the XL showing on the form, keeping the hands.
Just to make sure the form wasn't keeping tabs on the XL slots I did the same 40-tonner with an LB-X 20 AC. Now it's overcrits even if it drops the hands and lower arms.
I had to try a few times before it worked, but there seems to be a problem in swapping engine types.

Thanks for finding those! I found the problem I had with the engine types and corrected it. Hopefully everything is ok now.

maybe the 'mechs are just really cheap around here...but all the 'mechs in your TRO seem to cost 0 c-bills...
man, I'm going to say the hell with using single heat sinks and standard armor to hold down costs...

That's the placeholder for mech cost. I'm writing code to calculate the cost when a design is submitted. I'll run the same code against all designs in the database. So you numbers crunchers can all start doing your math when it's ready and tell me I'm wrong.

This sort of number-crunching?

As some have notice, there is now a Cost listed in the readouts. I've incorporated this cost into the Design portion so as you design, you can see the Cost of the BattleMech.
I've tweaked the Cost calculation in my code several times to fix bugs I saw when validating designs in the Queue. Of course, now my Queue is empty.
I'm asking for folks to submit more designs for me! If you want to go crazy with designs to try and break the cost calculation, then make sure you have TEST in the title, as usual.
This is coming along pretty nicely. After the Cost is ironed out and I manage to populate the the Costs into all the existing designs, I'm going to start adding Level 3 options.

The cost calculation differs from HeavyMetal by a small amount, but aside from that it all runs well.
(Heavymetal says the design would cost 5,847,711 C-Bills in parts, the TRO submission reads as 5,781,711 C-Bills.)

It's these little incosistencies that I'm trying to track down. So the more submissions, the better. And don't worry if the Cost differs from HMP right now, when I'm satisfied the cost calculations are accurate, I'll run a script to recalculate the cost for every mech in the readouts section (Standard as well as Custom).
