If I recall the fiction and sourcebooks correctly, any trueborn may specify a pod configuration for trials. Not necessarily for campaigns, though- it\'s tough on the logistics. Freeborns, if they get an omni at all, have to use a standard config. Fixed elements like endo-steel are fixed, trueborn or no.

Its been a while since I read the sourcebooks, and every clan may not do the same thing, but this is the way we\'ve always played. I don\'t know about IS omnis- I guess it depends on how much your quartermaster likes you.

Ok, I know this thread is a month and a half old, but it seems something fairly major was missed here. Some "fixed" criticals can still be moved within the location they are fixed. These include ES and FF, but ALSO include the crits for XL/Light Engines. I don't remember if there is anything else, but its not hard to check when you have HMPro. I'll be interested to see if the engine crits will be when the new version with single file Omni's comes out and clears this up. However anyone who has seen an Omni in one of the RS Books just has to look at the standard configs to see that they move the ES and FF around on ALL of them. It just has to stay in the same location.

I do not change the fixed crits. Mosy of my lights are no problem though the Apacolyspe 100 ton Cloud Cobra design gave me some fits. That one got tight.

And just so you know my Harley-Davidson designs are not omnis but rather factory variants of common chassis as is the CHT-1 cheetah family

What is the use of moving fixed criticals in the given location? (maybe besides the look!)

Well, when I GM I use a home rule that makes it so any empty space is.. well empty. None of that Roll Again stuff RAs, ESs, and FAs just don't do anything. Other than that it means nothing, except that canon designs always move these types of crits to the bottom of the list. However, I thought it would be a good idea to make sure people at least know about it.

I follow the omnis internal structure placement. It can make it a better challenge when trying to reconfigure the mech.
