It's rare that I see a movie on it's opening weekend. It's so rare that the last time I saw a movie on the first weekend it was Batman. I'm starting to sense a theme here.
The movie is 2 hours long and seemed like 2 minutes. The story is well written and the effects don't take away from the story. It is rated PG-13 for violence.
Willem Dafoe plays the Green Goblin and gives the "standard" Dafoe performance, being both over-the-top and subtle at the same time. He's truly one of the most under-rated actors of our time.
Kirsten Dunst playes Mary Jane Watson. She's hot so does her acting really matter? She did play the role well so that's a bouns.
On to our hero, played by Tobey Maguire. He does a very decent job of playing SpiderMan. He gets to show his comic timing a few times and pulls it off very well. I first saw him in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and thought them he had the tools to be a leading man. I suspect we'll see more of Maguire in the future.
Director Sam Raimi does a great job of keeping the film rolling at a good pace, with the peaks and valleys of the storyline coming at all the right points.
This film is far from Citizen Cane, but it's not supposed to be either. I give it a 4 (out of 5) rating and highly recommend it to everyone.

Question....if someone is indifferent about Spiderman in general, would they like the movie?

I'd say it will be worth seeing even if you aren't a Spidey fan...

WOW. I just got back from seeing it. It does not matter if you are a Spider-Man fan or not. You will like this movie.
Great visaul effects (Even some classic Spider-Man poses).True to the story verison(It did stray a little, But not to much) Great villian, Excellent message. The movie is worth seeing.
One of the things that was impressed with was the custome. Unlike most of Marvel's live actions ventures. Where the custome is WAY over done. Or completely under stated. Or (In many cases) Just plain cheesey. Spider-Man's outfit was perfect. My hats off to Marthe Baxley. The moives custome supervisor.
On a Side note, While we where waiting in line. I learned that the local Star Wars Fan club was out of town on a convention trip. And the theater had a excess of SWII tickets because they expected the group to buy out the first three shows, (Like they did at the EP 1 when it came out) But lucky me found out about the tickets.
To make a long story, Yours truly scored two tickets to the first showing of Star Wars II at 12:01 on 05-16-02. YEAH ME!!!!

Talen looks at his employee with the "If you dont give me those tickets, your freedom as an individual is forfeit" look.
ICER's lower lip starts to tremble as he looks at the tickets, then hands them up to Talen.
Talen takes one look at them, brushes them aside and walks off. ICER stares at Talen totally confused...

Well I would love to go see, but I couldn't go without my wife. I've had a few very experienced moms tell us they would love to watch baby Jonathan while we go out and enjoy a movie. But I just don't feel ready to give him up quite yet. I may just have to wait for the DVD.
Now Attack of the clones.....that's a whole different ballgame!
On a different note: Am I the only one who keeps hearing an annoying little voice say
"Spider-Man, Crazy Foam, Spider-Man? Crazy foam!"
