This is a good configuration of an okay mech, but why was it even built. This is essentially the Stromcrow with .5 tons more pod space and one ton less armor. Why would the Smoke Jaguars ever build a near clone of their favorite mech? Loses points for me.

Well, I tried to re-fluff it (waiting for Mordel to change it for me) but the change isn't too significant (the mech design is pretty old, made long before I was concerned with such things I posted it just to see the reactions)
Oh, and it has two fixed heat sinks and different amount of space available (it's a little strange way to make design, but I decided that RT is big gun's place and LT should hold ammo, so I adapted internal space to it)

Hmm- changing the internal configuration can be useful. Normally I hate it when Omni's don't mount all the integral heat sinks they can, but the Stormcrow has enough space to pod weight that it never really bothered me before.
I can see why you'd want to go this route. Sometimes those pesky internal components just aren't laid out the way you want them.

Whole idea of this omni started some two years ago, when I wanted something to replace/supplement Nova (I sympathized with SJs than, that's why it's unfinished project of now disbanded clan, Nova wasn't too common according to 3050 TRO).
This configuration was among the first created for it (munchy ones were deleted later) and it remained almost unchanged (flamer/light TAG can replace the light active probe when needed). Later I realized that there are few things that make me like it even more.
The number of SRMs and heat sinks that Blackhand pointed out in his review. In combination with lasers they produce excess heat (clans tend to ignore this), but with just average pilot that doesn't achieve all SRM locks it's much better. And because you have so many weapons, you can afford to lose some to crits. or to body parts destruction and still remain effective. This may be used to taunting opponent, or just pretending like you don't care at all. Prime can be used for straight forward tactics. Running to enemy and firing like mad, or staying away if the enemy has strong short range weapons (a bit of fierce Jaguar). Today I just got an idea about using it with grappling rules (if the ROE are broken) 3 sSRM-4s and ER PPC with TC with bonus for grappling and heat sinks to cool down when using them
I know that this is just self advertisement and couple of half-tried ideas, but I like them.

Taunting? Hmmm, I usually don't think of it quite that way. It makes sense; nothing disappoints more than blasting out a body section only to find that it contained nothing of value. Sort of a Pyrrhic victory, though.
I always disliked the extra heat and die rolls associated with three SRM 4's vs two SRM 6's. Of course, when internal hits start taking out the launchers, the extra heat suddenly looks worth it (and it gives you a few extra missiles). I always assume that some little guy with a couple of flamers or infernos will run up and make me regret that extra heat point.

Well, there is the same number of tubes, same tonnage and one more crit (but Lion has 6 crits in LT free) and almost the same amount of ammo. I think that the pilot can change SRMs and Light active probe as he wishes or the mission demands (and supplies allow). For some time I actually used two bigger launchers (and sometimes pulse lasers when I wanted to be nasty )
