Its more fragile, and with just as bad heat curve as the original. When you get an XL engine you expect a big improvement. I'm not exactly sure how you save 6 tons and don't really get a better ride, weapons or heat wise. The 45 upgrade Crab is a better and cheaper ride in my mind.

Could you perhaps explain this to me?

Where did I double the cost? This is more than a million c-bills cheaper than its predecessor.

I also thought that it had a reasonably good heat curve. You can fire both PPCs at a run, then drop a PPC for the lasers closer in. Indeed, the heat curve was its entire purpose, as its predecessor lacked the heat sinks to fully use its weapons.

The fluff is alittle wierd though. Because tecnhincally from 1st May 3067, Victor Davion is Precentor Martial of the ComStar. Its unlikely he will be creating trouble for Peter Steiner Davion.

True enough; I hadn't considered that. ::shrug:: Perhaps the bureaucrats are doing it themselves, without consulting higher-up?

Methinks Blackhand was comparing this model to the CRB-27. That one costs just above 4 million.

yeah, given a design upgrade. I compare it to the original low tech variant. Taking your maximum range and going from 15 to 23 squares is useful.

HOwever, a simple DHS swap and ER Larges for the Larges, can almost accomplish as much on the basic chassis. The difference between 19 and 23 is almost negligable in my mind unless you up against clanners. At which point the XL engine becomes the anchor that sinks you. I'll explain near the end of my post.

Its okay I suppose if you could make sure you'd stick to battles where you could be rearmoured but this mech is not something I'd want on a raiding party or against clanners. Because one unlucky hit and your mech is an engineless hulk.

I'm not much of a fan of XL engines nor of the IS ER PPC. The endosteel and XL engine freed up a lot of weight (9 tons). THis 9 tons buys you 2 ER PPC (additional 4 tons over the old Larges) One ER Medium and Medium Pulse (3 tons) and two tons of armour.

The straight DHS swap and dropping the number of heat sinks down to 13 and substituting ER Larges for your main guns. Saves you 3 tons to play with. Which you can turn into a ER Medium laser and 2 tons of armour.

The effective difference is... 4 squares of max range, and an additional 2 tons of weaponry, the Pulse laser in your 40 model, about the same heat curve, and about half your c-bills. So in my mind the doubling of the price of what a semi upgraded original model could do for an effective 4 square maximum range upgrade. Seems to be rather short sighted unless you have bottomless coffers and a need to use the 250 class XL engine.
