Okay here is the question:
Should there be artwork for the 3025 version of the mechs in Project Phoniex?
What I am asking here is should FP put a new TRO3025 in the same style as they have done 3055, but in this case it would have artwork for the UNSEEN either toned down versions of the PP artwork or new artwork that is similar to the PP art, but different enough to fit the 3025 time frame. The "added" in mechs that came over from TRO2750 could be there as well as the 2750 versions thus covering two books into one.
So what do you folks think of this? Is it a good idea or a bad idea? What I am looking for is your thoughts on this, and how something like this could be given to Randall as an idea etc...I think it would be very helpful since the Historicals are popular and this would be great way to get the older mechs to the new players without all the hype of the lawsuit etc...so please let's be adults and discuss this as such.

I always liked the original mechs and art, unseen or not, but if there is no other way...

The original artwork I think everyone liked to some degree, but BT can't use it anymore and currently there is nothing to show for the 3025 mechs like the Maraduer etc...so that is why I am asking what folks would like to see. If we get enough postive input and all that, we could present it to Randall and see what he has to say.
I would love to see a TRO3025 Updated that takes the mechs from both the original TRO3025 and TRO2750 and combines them in one book giving us all the needed mechs with art and thus we have two decent books in one. Then something for the vehicles from 2750 and 3025 could be done as well.

As long as the subject is something like 15% different, then it isn't copyright infringement (IIRC).
I'd like to see the Unseen redone, but not to the extreme that Project Phoenix did (most of those only have a vestigial resemblance to their venerated ancestors)

The 15% sounds right (it may even be as low as 10% diferent cant remember from my art institute days).
And I have to agree little changes would be ok just enough to make them passable, the unseen artwork is......... Ok.........To put it nicely.

Umm... I don't know how much the pictures must differ, but maybe making them be somewhere between original unseen artworks and Project Phoenix (that would show PP mechs as upgraded 3025 mechs) can be the right way out of this labyrinth of laws.

I'm talking about the % of difference mentioned above, new WHM is in my opinion one of the ugliest (mini looks even worse despite being nicely detailed (I saw just pics)). Stinger may know more.

Funny thing is if one looks in the Robotech RPG books, you can see that Palladium had newer art for the mecha as time went along, art drawn by them for the Robotech RPG, now my question here is why would HG allow that, but yet go after FASA?

Simple:
Palladium had (or still has) a lisence to make a role playing game set in the RoboTech universe. As there was a lawsuit against FASA, I think it's safe to assume that they did not have permission to use the designs.

Palladium no longer has the rights to the Robotech RPG, they didn't renew them when HG raised the cost of the rights, note this is why a lot of Pallidum books are getting updated and re-released, to remove all reference to Robotech and related items.
The lawsuit was over images, we all know the out come, FASA pulled the images of the original mechs once it became clear they couldnt match HG legal group in court. We all know this.
What I am suggesting is that FP either revamp the PP mechs so they look more like the 3025 style of mechs for use with the 3025 Versions of the Unseen thus giving images back to those mechs, which are still missing, or go with the current art, and just tag it to the older fluff, re-releasing TRO3025 with mechs like the Maraduer back in it, with artwork and thus tying things in nicely to the Historicals that are out and coming out.
So that is why I am covering this, I think they could do the above with very little cost to them (FP) since they already have the fluff done, and they have the artwork.

I would vote for revamping them, not totally, but revamping - as I said, something between old and new, to show the resemblance. If both TROs, 3025 and 3050, are going to be reprinted than the change may be gradual from almost originals to PP, it would unite the pics to greater whole.
