Maybe I'm too lazy, but I was unable to find better picture (well, maybe this)

I guess that the scrap under Natasha's feet is there because they didn't want the book to be for adults only, but ...

IIRC, one of the early Mechwarrior manuals (either 1st ed or 2nd ed) had an entry in there on a number of utility and security robots that were in existance. Not only that, Crescent Hawk's Inception has a training mission where you're trying to kill some mining robots re-fitted with infantry weapons.

However, from what I've seen the concept of robots appears to have been mostly deleted when the shift to 3rd ed was done.

Actually I'm glad that they deleted them.

Do you have some stats for the robots?

I'd have to dig through the manuals to get at them.

IMHO, though, in a limited role they actually would have had a place in the game. I'm guessing that players were probably abusing them or found them too unusual to routinely use.

With all technical degradation during the succession wars they would be probably all destroyed or cannibalized for spare parts after first years.

If there were (cheap) robots for manual work than there wouldn't be any slaves in the Inner Sphere.

Actually, much of the Prehiphery, Cappellan Confederation, and Chaos March is so poor that even if the robots were available cheaply they'd still only be in the hands of the very elite.

Plus there's the planets that are just low-tech to begin with.

And there's probably people out there (such as crime lords) who get their kicks by having people to beat around.

Kraken, you can add Draconis Combine to that list as well.

Mechwarrior 1ed describes Security Robots - "A mobile wathchdog robot with limited pattern recognition capability, security robots have been used to guard against casual intrusion. Due to their complexity, they are rarely encountered beyond former Star League facilites, and will tent to treat any encountered person or vehicle as an intruder."

They weren't anything special...different but not speical and they don't go away so to speak, it the Kerensky triology they are there on Outreach being used by the Dragoons....

The biggest robot was a harvester, 160 tons..it's a vehicle with a robotic brain...

The mining robot was fast but there are faster vehicles and more powerful ones as well.

Over all they were a small part of the BT universe, and never went anywhere because it's most likly they were forgotten about for the most part by TPTB.

Having them in the game wouldn't hurt it, since about the only places one would find them would be the high tech worlds and Terra and the Clan worlds, that is if the Clans would use things like robots. I doubt that the mech factories have folks building mechs by hand, insturaial robots are still in use one would think in these factories.

And why wouldn't robots and robotics be something the IS wouldn't be looking into...after all they can make walking tanks, why not a house hold robot....

I'm not talking about industrial robots or vehicles driven by computers, drones seem to be okay, but AI man-size robots acting like independent or remotely controlled soldiers like droids in Star Wars (clans probably eliminated them early in their history and IS states lack technical knowledge and resources to field them). I think that they could have been involved in Amaris coup and destroyed by Kerensky's troops before they left.

This doesn't look like those robots on the picture. Are there other statistics for this vehicle (weight, armor, ...)?

I am sure there were at some point, human sized robots in the IS. They could have been deemed to expensive or not cost effecitve and dropped that way or their uses are limited since AI technology isn't that advanced in the BT universe.

The ones on the cover could have been the Sercuity robots that are mentioned in the original MW1 RPG book. Or better yet, an early for of power armor maybe?

The robots on the picture don't resemble these statistics (weapons alone weight 1000kg) and the legs are too thin for humans in PA.

Hmmm... Could be one of the training robots (well, animated maniquins that shoot back) that are often used in the novels. One ran afoul of Justin Allard's left arm. Wasn't much left.

I believe one of the old scenario books had security robots of some sort involved in it. I think it had something to do with an old Star League base.
