    3 20mm Gatling Machine Guns

Targeting & Tracking System: Omicron VII
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overview:

Amassing at 80 tons and sporting 3 long menacing PPC barrels from its
turret, the Shrek was a sight to behold and a terrifying adversary to face.
Capable of crippling most enemy mechs in just 2 - 3 volleys of its awesome
weapon array, it was just as feared as its dreaded cousins, the Behemoths
and Demolishers.

With the re-discovery of Star League technologies, the Shrek fell out of
favor. Outranged by most newer IS tech and Clan tech Weapons, it was deem
obsolete and the lost of Aldis Industries would mean that the Shrek would be
no longer in production. It was doomed.

However, as luck would have it, a certain Comstar Acolyte was a descendent
of one of Aldis Industries RnD head engineers. The Acolyte has in pocession
of several Aldis Industries flag ship vehicles blueprints, he then forwarded
a copy to his Primus who readily agreed to allow Grumium Creation attempt to
re-create the vehicles.

Although Grumium Creations did not exactly recreate the Shrek, they created
an even more lethal version of it. The Shrek II.

Capabilities

Amassing at over 100 tons, the Shrek II is certainly no feather weight and
certainly not fast moving. With a maximum flank speed of only 32.k
kilometres an hour, its even slower than the original Shrek but it
compensates for its new Extended range weapons.

Mounting 3 brand new Magna Firestar Extended Range PPCs, the Shrek II is
capable of engaging targets at long stand off distances. The new ERPPCs also
do not suffer from the original weaknesses as well. The original Shrek PPCs
have difficulty focusing on targets below 120 meters and are thus vulnerable
to rushing tactics, however for the Shrek II, rushing head on to the tank is
almost suicide, as the Shrek II does not suffer from the engagment problems
that plague the Shrek.

As for added defence against infantry swarm tactics, the Shrek II mounts a
trio of 20mm Gatling machine guns with 2 at the sides and 1 in the turret
which gives it a good firing arc against soft targets from any side. The
vehicle's armor is still fairly light at 11 tons but being of ferro-fibrous
nature makes it more resillient. The Turret and Rear of the tank has an
approximately 50% more protection than the original while the sides and
front of the tank has at least 60% more protection.

Like its fore father, the Shrek II is designed to be capable of fighting in
emplaced defensive areas and thus is designed in a similar way, but the
larger tank might require more space and certainly harder ground in order to
park it there.

Deployment

At a cost of slightly more than 5.5 million C-bills make this vehicle
economical to produce when compared to the mechs of equal tonnage but with
only a top speed of 32.4 kilometres an hour relagates it to garrison duty.
Its weapon range and being almost free from supply lines makes the Shrek II
a fine choice for a prolong defensive garrison unit.

The Shrek II has being bought by both the FRR neighbours, the Lyran Alliance
and surprisely, the Draconis Combine who have a penchant for fast and hard
hitting units instead of slow lumbering giants like the Shrek II.

However, the DCMS has being recently embroiled in a gruelling private war
with Clan Ghost Bear and begun purchasing these vehicles in small quantities
to perform garrison duty on backwater planets or protect vital rearward
command posts. Which the Shrek II almost fits the bill while still being
rather cheap.

The Lyran Alliance is still wary of the Jade Falcons and has bought plenty
of Shrek IIs to defend its precious Coventry Metalworks factory hidden in
the mountains. A picture or holovid of a Shrek II driving around the
beautiful mountains of Coventry is often used as an advertisement by Grumium
Creations.

Variants

The DCMS and LAAF normally use their own variant of the ERPPCs and the Shrek
II has being surprisely versatile enough to accomdate such changes. The
changes are merely appearance wise (or perhaps to avoid depending on FRR for
parts ?) and have no real affect on the vehicle's firepower or targetting.

Several variants were spotted with some removing the MGs for a small laser
and a heatsink and armor while other feature a small SRM or LRM rack and a
ton of ammo. These minor upgrades don't affect the vehicle's performance
drastically as well.

Currently a test model of the Shrek II is underway with a new XL engine, the
vehicle does move as fast the original Shrek but at a cost of 17 million
C-bills would mean that it would not be as popular.

Seems a little weak on the armor.

I thought the armor was not that terrible itself At least it can take a couple of Gauss hits and keep on booking it.

Remember that tanks are usually gone after a crit hit and the original Shrek mounts only 7.5 tons of armor :/

I know vehicles don't last more then a couple of turns with the rules and hit table stacked against them. Just given what this vehicle is mounted I think some more armor is needed.

Think of it as a mobile pillbox... It is kinda cheap for the kind of firepower it packs.

Kick it back down to a normal fusion engine. That XL is KILLING the cost-effectiveness.

Yup thats why im sticking with the slower but alot cheaper machine and i gave it a long fluff.

The XL engine is garbage and something the FRR can not afford easily.

Then think about swapping one ERPPC for a regular PPC. using the heatsinks dropped for speed. The 2/3 speed is just horrid. I don't care what you mount unnless it's artillery. I can simply go around your tank and avoid it completely. I mean a Scorpion Light Tank goes twice as fast and their considered slow. Also, by virtue of it's jumpjets, the UrbanMech can outpace this thing. That's just wrong.
