I've got two versions of the ship: one is a standard jumpship, and the other is a warship.

Their job is to jump to unexplored star systems, and conduct scientific analyses there. If the system has planets or other interesting bodies of mass, there are three small craft (usually shuttles loaded with scientific gear) that can be deployed to the surface.

as an exploration vessael, i felt your version was grossely over gunned and under accomdated. Therefor, i decided to drop weapons in exchange of larger rooms, larger food supply, larger fuel supply, and greater armor.

In addition, i decreased the speed for a smaller engine. my reasoning is that it is not running a race but crusin about looking at stuff. 3/5 is way more then enough for this purpose.

I then increased the cargo bays to 10% of the vessels mass for anything they may need to perform there jobs. i, likewise, increased spare parts to 2% as this vessel needs to opperate for great lengths of time away from a supply base.

it was this central idea of VERY VERY long term exploration missions that spured on all my changes. the ship now has 2 years of food, 1 year of fuel at 1g, and enough cargo to supply such a long mission. in addition, it is extra comfortable for the crew who can spend easily 6 months to 2 years aboard ship.

The remaining weapons load can dissuade most pirates and keep the ship safe against space junk. I kept two of the NLs as they can serve multiple purposes: anti-pirate, anti-object, and perhaps as drills.

Do to the fact this ship is going to serve a long time out, i thought it best to include alot of armor. i mean if i was jumping into an unknown system i'd want thick hull plating to stop space junk the guns don't get.

as for the weapons splitting, i prefear my weapons broken into what i picture as reasonable turrets or implacements. i also prefear flexability.

overall, i loved your idea, yet it seemed your warship was more a combat vessel and not an exploration vessel. it had no endurance to perform its mission.

edit: i rairly place BS Arc weapons on design that are not big Cruisers and Destroyers. Your For and Aft side arcs cover that spot already and placing weapons there is only necessary in combat ships. IMHO.
