I was testing out a few of my custom 'mechs and I found a pretty good matchup between the ZEU-6S Zeus and the Grimm Marauder variant I've posted in the custom Technical Readout here. Terrain is open and hilly, with scattered woods and water. Pilots are both seasoned regulars, with 4/4 skills. BV for the match was only two points across, so according to that measure the two are equals. Which one do you think has the advantage?

I'm gonna have to go with the Zeus on this one. His superior speed is gonna make him a tough nut to crack, especially on open-type terrain. He'll speed around (as much as an Assault 'mech can) on the map, seeking cover, and popping out to smack you around with that LRM and AC/5, until those are exhausted and he comes in close, relying on his superior mass to beat you in close combat. I can definately see the Marauder winning, but I have a feeling that the Zeus will pull through.

While I do love the Zues, I actually must go with the Marauder. The Zues is indeed more mobile and it does possess a striong long range profile but the Marauder has heavier armor, plus the Zues seems to ba a reliant on ammo. On the plus side, it is a lot more heat effecient and so should be able to deal the necessary damage quickly. So many things to consider and honestly in the end, I just flipped a coin to decide since I couldn't make up my mind.

I'll go Zeus too. The speed difference is small, but it's always that last movement point you need. And it can start getting rid of ammo before the Grimm is in range for that. Just don't get caught in the open at five hexes from the Grimm, OK?

I've got my money on the Zues. THe Grimm Marauder is nice but, the Zeus with its speed edge can use tis ammo up long before the Marauder gets many shots off.

I went with the Marauder. It clearly outguns the Zeus. At range? Pah! No worries. LRM-15 + AC/5 versus 2 PPC's? Only 8 shots with that LRM too. Unlimited with the PPC's. The speed differencec isn't that great, even in open terrain. It's only a one hex difference. And seeing as both mechs are long range mechs, the speed is even less of a concern than if one or both were short range brawlers. Also the 2 ton armor differencec makes another point in favor of the Marauder. As the ranges close the Zeus adds a large laser and the Marauder adds an AC/10. Another point to the Marauder. Get closer and the Zeus adds one medium laser compared to the Marauder's 3 medium lasers. Both mechs have to watch the heat, though the Zeus is MUCH cooler running than the Marauder, but then it wouldn't be a Marauder without bad heat dissappation.

I more in favor of the Zeus, being more cooler running and slightly more agile can be advantageous in a short vicious skirmish.

ì`m goin for the grimm MAD on this one its just tougher and in a long range sniping match thats wat u need

The Marauder tore the Zeus to shreds. I found nice level three to stand on, so the Zeus couldn't use it's superior movement to climb up behind me in one round, and tore into him. I wasn't concerned about moving beyond being able to turn a few hex sides, so I was able to run up my heat and make do with 2/3 movement.

It didn't fare so well against a Battlemaster though. I kind of figured as much. I'm going to run it against an Awesome next. That should be a pretty easy kill. Get under it's PPCs and tear into it with the Grimm's AC and medium lasers.
