                   Specials: omni

Also comes in Snowmobile and Dune Buggy variants [at no change in weight.]

Wheeled chassie was selected do to the extensiveness of its use on paved surfaces were it can gain a slight increase in speed.

Omni tech for vehicles has always been described as a design method and not a technology like that on battlemechs. I just imagine a hard point were various weapons packages can be mounted.

Standard Variants include 3 MG w 1/2t ammo and 2 Flamers w 1t ammo.

Not to step on toes, i'm just showing alternate choices.

The HD-8 chassis with its small size and compact layout would be a usel machine for this mission. And I have designed another mark just for this mission.
               BattleMech Technical Readout

Type/Model: Harley-Davidson HD-8F
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3067
Config: Quad BattleMech
Rules: Level 3, Standard design

Mass: 10 tons
Chassis: Endo Steel
Power Plant: 40 GM XL Fusion
Walking Speed: 43.2 km/h
Maximum Speed: 64.8 km/h

Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor Type: Standard
Armament:
2 Flamers
Manufacturer: (Unknown)
Location: (Unknown)
Communications System: (Unknown)
Targeting & Tracking System: (Unknown)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The HD-8 chassis was designed by Harley-Davidson to be able to operate inside
industrial buildings. This tiny quad is so compact that is can easily operate
inside on factories and warehouses.

==Capabilities:==
The HD-8 is not particularly fast but its compact quad layout enables it to
fit into places that even the 10 ton bipeds would be hard pressed to go .The F
type was created in response for a unit that could be smuggled in to
insurgancy groups for the purpose of setting fires for scorched earth
tactics.The same compact layout that makes it usefull for plant security also
is useful for insurgancy operations becauseit is relativly easy to conceal.

==Deployment==
The HD-8 type is used primarily for plant security. The F variant is used for
insurgancy support. rather than the security details that the other types are
used for

An XL engine? That's an ultra-risky investment, isn't it?

1. The insurgents would almost certainly never be able to maintain it.

2. Fusion engines, let alone XL engines, are too rare and too valuable to be used by a bunch of backwoods hicks fighting an insurgency campaign.

Scarcity is a relative thing...Alot depends on the Tech base of the supplier this unit would be sent with a pilot and tech and often a high tech unit would be in fact EASIER to maintain because of parts simplicity the high tech solid state ignition systems on todays cars while more expensive and complex to build are in fact MUCH more robust and easier to maintain as the solid state systems have no moving parts just consider the breaker point ignition in the 1960s that need all most constant maintenance then contrast that to the distributer free all electronic systems of the newest cars that need no maintenance for 100,000+ miles instead of needing new points every 10,000 High tech does not necessarily mean high maintenance the XL fusion engine while expensive would be almost maintenance free since it works by drawing electrical energy directly from the reaction whereas the I.C.E. engine has parts sliding and rotating and jumping and oscillating all over the place lots of friction and stress plus there in no need for fuel so you can go hide in the wilds ( and most planets will have much smaller populations than 21st century Terra) and not have to expose yourself in raids to obtain fuel.

no scarcity is scarcity. Battletech has repeatedly and consistently stated that Fusion engines are harder to obtain and build then ICE engines.

They also have repeatedly and consistently stated that fusion engines are more difficult to maintain. your analogy is nice BUT very very flawed. A solid state ignition dosen't require a 4 year degree to assemble. Your using a comparison that is no were near close enough to be reasonable.

Justify it as you will but an ICE will be and is easier to maintain then any fusion engine.

The guys here kinda pounded that into me with some of my vehicle designs. If you want something to be cheap and mass-produced, think ICE.

And that makes a lot of sense. What do you need to build an internal combustion engine? A machinists shop and some electronics parts.
What do you need to build a Fusion engine? Superconductors, for one. Advanced polymers and alloys for another.

The parts you use to build an engine are the parts you use to fix one.

And, as Vagabond said, you'd need at least the equivalent of a modern Bachelor's degree to properly maintain such a beast of high-technology.
