OKay, Here's a clash of the titans. On a whim I've decided to challenge Oafman to a battle using a couple of our custom assaults. His SMR-1 Samurai and SMR-2 Samurai versus my AS7-X Atlas and DOM-2 Dominator. Only the SMR-1 Samurai has been field tested.
What do you all think? Who would win? Why?
Either do a 1x2 map set or 2x4. The larger fields favor him while the smaller one favors me. Both his are dangerous at range while my force contains one long range and one short range mech.

Reluctantly, I tossed in the vote for Oafman.
I basically like Seraph's Dominator most, and Oafman's designs aren't really to my personal piloting tastes.
However: The Samurais have a strong long range weaponry. And will be terrible to behold in close combat.
The Dominator is scariest out of the whole lot at close range. But the Atlas is geared mostly towards long range. And I would not be confident that it has the killing power to actually drop one of those Samurais before they get into hand to hand combat.
So, yeah, Oafman has the more flexible and ultimately probably more powerful force.
Though that Dominator really is evil!

I'm forced to agree with Jymset there. Team Seraph are each pretty good at what they do, but Team Oafman has the complete package in both 'mechs, and thus has the edge in flexability.

I'll go with Oafman here.. i've never been too impressed with AS7-X. It has some long-range firepower, but it can't quite compete with the four er ppcs it will be facing.. I feel it sacrifices too much firepower for speed.
The dominator needs to close in to use its big guns, but too close and those two samurais are likely to live up to their namesakes..

The Atlas doesn't have to drop them, the Dominator can do that. Seraph will have to think more about how to use his mechs, but they can certainly pound the two Samurai into sheet metal. Trying to reach close combat (too fast) would be a foolish decision on Oafman's part.

In Oafman's place, i'll play up his ranged advantage first.

My main worry on this one is lucky die rolls. If we both play these mechs tothe best of our abilities it should be a pretty good slug fest. I am exicted to see how well the jumping variant of the Samurai will perform. I have played the main version and already know how evil it can be at all ranges. Really not looking forward to a 'full tab' on that dominator.
One thing I do know, this thing will not have much salvage left except maybe some slag.

This one is close, but I voted for Seraph cause I know how devious he plays.
You guys gonna replay on an event like early headshots and such? Cause such lucky rolls can really turn a match on end heh.

Play out the match even if there's an early headshot. Then try again!

That is usually what we do. To get an accurate reading it needs to be played a few times with each person exchanging the mechs. I have found that some mechs just seem to fit with different people. I have a list that I never play because they always die for dumb reasons when other people have great success.
After this match we may have to try out some of our others that are in the TRO custom section. My 75 ton Lumberjack is still untested. (at least by me)

Sounds fun, and if Seraph gets bored playing with his customs he can use some of mine... like the ones I made based on his... (hint hint!)

I agree that it'll be a close match. At the longer ranges Oafman has the advantage as his 4 ER PPC's will be facing a gauss rifle and LRM-20. But I may use the Atlas as support for the Dominator. At the shorter ranges I can easily dominate. Where, I'll be facing 2 SRM-6's, an SRM-4, 3 med pulse lasers, and a couple MG's he'll be facing a med pulse laser, 5 medium lasers, and of course, the UAC/20 and LB-20X AC's. With 5 tons ammo for each cannon, I'm an ammo explosion waiting to happen. But it also allows me to attempt shots at my max ranges as I've no worries on running out of ammo. And with the UAC opening holes you can bet my cluster rounds will be crit seeking like no one's business. Of course then I must tangle with his swords. Which I look forward to. I beefed the armor up pretty well on both and they also both jump. Wouldn't you hate to take an alpha strike from the Dominator from behind. How the whole game goes will depend solely on how well I fare getting into range. I am looking forward to this match-up too. I don't usually play such monsters.

Monsters are right. Can you imagine a round at close range between the dominator and the main Samurai? All those rounds going back and forth and a TSM sword hit. Someone is not gonna survive that.
