Overview:
"From its birth following the Fourth Succession War,
through the Ronin Wars and the Clan invasion, the Free
Rasalhague Republic has known few times of real peace.
This has only served to strengthen our people, however,
and teach us the value of a strong military. "
- Christian Månsdotter, Överbefälhavare of the
Rasalhague KungsArmé, 26 March 3062
------------------------------------------------------------------
Christian Månsdotter was the veteran of several gruelling
campaigns during the days of the Ronin Wars and Clan
Invasion. His memories of the past are often bitter and
tearful. Having seen how Rasalhague has fallen to the
Clans, Månsdotter now finally the Överbefälhavare and
regent of the FRR has decided to revamp the FRR military
once and for all.
The Truce is expiring, the hostility among the Lyrans and
Davions, plus with Clan Wolf and Ghost Bear moving,
Månsdotter saw the need to make haste.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Overview
In standard FRR procedures, the Overste (Colonel) always
fought along side with their men and women and are often
killed in action. The OV-A2 Overste Battlemech is in a way
to pay tribute to the capable leaders that have fallen in the
line of duty as well as protecting future leaders that might
actually pilot this machine.
Amassing at 100 tons and 19 tons of locally produced GC
plated armor, the Overste is capable of taking the heaviest
punishment that would fall most mechs. Coupled with a
GM 300 standard fusion engine that is both reliable and
rugged, the Overste will keep on ticking even after most
mechs have fallen. A single Norse-Storm Model Guardian
ECM which have being provided by trade deals between
the Lyrans augument's the mech's defensive capabilities,
protecting the Overste against various smart weapons.
The mech itself does not feature advanced construction
techniques aside from Double heat sink technology
making it very quick and cheap to produce as well.
Weapon wise, the mech has being jokingly label as being
constructed from various spare parts but nevertheless it is
effective and deadly.
Grumium Creations relied on their connections with the
Draconis Combine to obtain permits to purchase large
quantities of the powerful Lord's Light Extended Range
PPCs. The deal went through and all Overste mounts a
pair of these to give the assault machine striking firepower
over the distance. 17 Double strength freezers (which
specs are derived from Comstar) enable the mech to fire
the dangerous pair with impunity. The Overste also
features a Blackwell Fury Gauss Rifle (CASE protected).
Clearly a weapon of Wolf Dragoon's origin, the weapon
has being finely tuned and designed, making it one of the
most reliable Gauss rifle ever. Supplied with a massive 32
reloads, the Overste mechwarrior can count on the
weapon for an extended operation time. The sufficient
cooling from the DHS ensure d that the Overste can fire
the gauss rifle and erppcs together with little trouble.
For close ranged defence, a quad of Defiance B3M
medium lasers round out the weapon's array. A single
medium laser in the centre torso has being flipped to the
rear to discourage rear attacks. Although the mech seems
to lack short ranged firepower, it should be reminded that
ERPPCs have no minimum range and can be used up
close, if needed.
The Overste obvious lack of powerful short range
weaponary seems to based on sobering lessons learnt
from the Clans. During the invasion, Clan Omnimechs
consistently outranged FRR Battlemechs and often tore
FRR units into shreds even before the FRR mechs can
engage. Now better equipped for long range combat, any
Overste mechwarrior can rest easy, knowing that his mech
return the favour. The delibrate long range profile and the
slower mech was chosen is to encourage the
mechwarriors of the Overste (usually the upper ranks of
the Kungsarme) to stay back and have a bigger view of
the battlefield while remaining composed under fire.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Variants
A variant exist where the Gauss rifle is replaced with a
Defiance Thunder Ultra autocannon. 2 DHS were moved
from the torso to the arms and 4 tons of UAC-20 ammo rest
there with the CASE. With impending hostilities between
the Davions and Lyrans, getting the high tech Defiance
Thunder is a rare prospect, a lower tech but locally produced
Pontinac 200 AC was used instead. 25 CASE protected
reloads supply the Pontinac 200 and gives the maverick
commander lots of ammunition to spare.
Deployment
A company of Overste have rolled off GC assault
battlemech factories. 3 of these are assigned to the 3rd
Hussars whose main task is the protection of GC's assault
mech facilities.
A lance was assigned to the 4th Kavalleri. Booming with
confidence of defeating Clan Wolf in the worlds of
Altenmarkt and Disod, Månsdotter personally gave
Overste Cizek a lance of these new deadly battlemechs.
The last 5 have being shipped to the 1st Tyr, the heart
and soul of the FRR. Having fought both in the Ronin
Wars and Clan Invasion, its a given that Månsdotter will
assign the mechs to the grizzled and combat hardened
war veterans in the unit.
GC is currently preparing to produce more Overste after its
1st run of Vikings is complete.
