==Overview:==
The S.O.I.S. is a specially designed shuttlecraft used by SpecOp teams
through out the Inner Sphere. There nature is clouded in mystery and myth.
Everyone denies there existence and just as likely uses them daily. For the
first time in history, this Investigator has gained information about these
legends, and I will now share this information with you.
==Capabilities:==
The S.O.I.S. or Special Operations Insertion Shuttle is a low profile
high speed long range shuttlecraft similar in appearance to a KR-61 capable of
performing trips from jump points to planets and back. With an estimated 12
day supply of fuel and 22 days of food the shuttle can ferry Special Operation
teams from jump points up to 5 days from the target and return with fuel
reserves. The shuttles it is believed are equipped with space for a 6 man
Battle Armor team that uses a specially modified escape pod to deliver them to
the planets surface.
My sources inform me that the reason the shuttle is limited to 5 day
trips and not 6 as would be thought is do to the unique way the shuttle
inserts its team. The shuttle will cruise in slowly for several days until it
is only an hour away from it objective. The team and shuttle crew suit up and
wait for the next phase to begin. At the 15 minutes out mark, the team are
ordered to enter the pod were they strap in to wait as the shuttle accelerates
at maximum speed. The shuttle will approach velocities that boarder on harmful
to the human body despite the advanced suits the crew and team wear as the
shuttle screams towards its target. The shuttle crew will angle the shuttle on
an approach that will take it into the targets lower orbits at which point
they drop the pod. The pod will fire deceleration thrusters and enter the
planets atom-sphere. Meanwhile, the shuttle crew will angle away from the
target planet and proceed to a safety point were they will decelerate and
proceed to the designated retrieval point.
This tactic while dangerous removes the need for the shuttle to land and
limits the amount of time the shuttle is above its target. I have uncovered
evidence of multiple occurrences in which local system controls encountered
unidentified objects that entered the planets orbit then departed at very high
speed without ever entering the atmosphere. When asked to comment on this
issue, official at the Pentagon on New Avalon stated that "[they] cannot
confirm nor deny the existence of such vessels and have no further comment."
It is the belief of this Investigator that our government has been using these
vessels to conduct illegal clandestine operations against other nations.
