I guess I wasn't too clear on the concept: the 'mech is deployed from a dropship in space, not on the ground. It travels from it's own dropship bay to an enemy dropship, then attempts to make forced entry, preferably making as big a hole in the hull as it can in the process.
I don't know the rules for a 'mech trying to move by jump jet through space, but I imagine it can't be very fast. Along the way, it's subject to fire from any aerospace fighter that happens to pass by, thus making any trip through space an extremely dangerous one.
And nobody uses them. As I said in the fluff, the 'mech is only found in museums.
