Once again, this is another section that packs quite a few of the absolute mainstays of 3025 armies.
The Centurion is the best jack-of-all-trades. And pretty good at most things, too. The armour is decent, not too strong, but not at all weak, either. It has weapons for all ranges, some quite powerful, and plenty of ammo. Really, this is a true battlemech, you just have to be careful not to take on an overly powerful enemy. One of my favourites.
The Enforcer is unfortunate in that it mirrors the Centurion in many counts. But it carries less ammo. And the weapons aren’t spread as nicely (though that medium-range one-two punch has also something going for it). That armour also forces it to be on the move (ie, dictate the position of friend & foe), which is no good for that AC. Don’t think I’ve used this more than once or twice, the Centurion always seems the preferable alternative. And it is probably cheaper than the jumping Enforcer, too.
I currently hold a grudge against the Hunchback. Remember my knack for headshots with the Blackjack. Well, whichever light or medium enemy ‘mech ever manages to get into the back arc of my Hunchback, they have a knack of hitting the right torso. Which obviously sports only paper for protection. And then crits will happen inevitably. Very, very frustrating. Otherwise, this is a very one-dimensional design that is very good at what it does.
Likewise, the Trebuchet. This one is aimed at long-range combat. And equipped for only 8 rounds. Yet I totally love this design. I am one of those weirdos who absolutely adores that tiny old miniature. It was cast so finely, love all those small missile ports, and the general look (don’t gasp, Vampire, we’ve been through this!). Really, it has weak armour and is low on ammo, but it should do what the fluff describes: support your own ‘mechs by harassing enemies which are slower (love that 5/8 speed) and have short-range weaponry. Once the 8 shots are used up, it can either help finishing wounded enemies or hunt light ‘mechs, those 3 ML are still respectable.
Yes, the Centurion is the better all-rounder, and definitely the most reliable of these designs, but overall, I love my Trebuchet best!

There's a reason my collection contains more Centurions than any other 'Mech...

Definately the centurion.
I like jack of all trades and i have had good results with this guy.
The only thing that bugs me is the lack of jump jets.

Enforcer. Definitely the Enforcer for a general all round battle line 'mech. Between the AC and it's Large laser it hits almost as hard as a Warhammer. A Davion 'mech company anchored on a company of Enforcers is a fearsome force on the battlefield. It sports better protection than the Centurion as well, along with jump jets.
As for it's lack of ammo, I don't really like carrying a lot of ammo around with me; I want enough ammo so that I'll run out at about the point when I either kill my foe, or my own armor is beginning to buckle. (I like the Trebuchet and Hunchback for this reason as well) With the Enforcer, if you have to jump around a bit, rely on the laser for your hits most of the time. Get yourself into a position to stand and deliver, and let the enemy have it.

Another tough one. But I chose the Centurion over the Hunchback. As with the Vindicator, the Centurion is a good multi-function mech. With good long and short range punch as well as a rear arc firing weapon.
On a side note: The Centurion was designed to protect Trebuchets from enemy forces. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

Out of the base designs, Centurions are best suited to my way of thinking. Move slow and hit hard, direct fire or indirect fire.

None of these mechs really appeal to me. The Swayback and AC 10 variants of the Hunchback or about the only ones I actually like. So I tossed my vote to the hunchback.
Yeah I realise you were talking base designs, but meh.

from all the hunchback variants out ther eI think the HBK is probably the best cheap assault mech there is. I realize not all variats are 3025, but an ac20 is nice on the hbk, the 4sp variant is golden, and the 4p can almost alpha every other time. I know they are low on armor, but the HBK is enough of a threat that you have to take notice, the rest of the mechs in this poll just don't have that fear factor imo.

Ya know, I've never felt that fear from any HBK...
I see one, I blast it with a couple PPCs, it dies. The only time an HBK has even hurt me was during a battle between HBKs and Urbies. The Urbies still won most often too. Oh, and I guess the time a hidden HBK jumped out and blew an arm apart on my Mad Cat was pretty bad. Till the HBK died.

It depends on what's fielded alongside the hbk. If the hbk is charging then it dies fast, howeer if it has heavy or assault support then it is a long day in y experience sure hbks can be killed easily especially if you ammo them, but they pack a wallup in such a small package.

HBKs are just mean any way you look at 'em. Stick one in a fire support lance, let the LRM boats keep the enemy occupied while you creep up on the enemy, and BAM! All of the sudden somebody's missing a leg...and it's not going to be the Hunchback.
The Medium laser variant is the most dangerous of the lot; you can shoot it's side torso to shreads and still not take out all of it's lasers. In terms of critical hit seeking it's about the equivalent of something carrying an LB-20X

I could care less whats in a lance with an HBK, its so easily killed that even if a Daishi is walking next to it I kill it first. Just because it only takes that 1 turn of heavy concentrated fire to bring it down. Whereas the Daishi isnt going down that quick so why leave myself open to being attacked by more mechs than I have to? Its called tactics ladies, thing the enemy lines before his short ranged baddies can get in close. Of course this only works really well if you field a lot of mechs that have range on your oponent.... otherwise they are gonna do it to you.

Sounds like my thoughts on what to do with Riflemen.
But seriously, ten tons of armor isn't THAT bad for a medium mech. It should be plenty enough as long as you remember to use cover while closing in.
