If nothing else, load your LRMs with Folow THe Leader ( FTL ) warheads. You take a -2 die penaly when you check to see how many missiles hit, but all misiles in the flight hit the same location.
Thus, if your first roll (after penalties) indicate that 7 missiles hit, and your Location roll says Center Torso, all 7 missiles hit the center torso.
This is purely to player tastes, though. Ive had some games where I wish all the missiles would hit the same location *cough*head*cough*, and others where I like making my opponent sweat what location is going to get ripped open.

As I'm sure most of you know from scoping on my custom designs posted here, I'm a big fan of Energy+Ballistic also. Of course I love my SSRMs too...
And I'm proud to claim that I'm another who only puts LRMs on support designs.
Get my 'dirty scrapper' (sorry Daphne I had to ) in close and personal with my oponent and hit em with TAG/NARC and then watch the LRMs rain down from the lance of Longbows or Archers... WHILE I continue to pummel them with the in fighter.

Not quite true. I knew a guy who ran with one mech cranking out enough ECM to grey out the hemesphere, and another tossing out ECCM.
Made it hell to get in close and use some smart weapons on him.....

My Point exactly. battles ARE won or lost on who hits who.
Like the old saying goes. " If you can see it, you can hit it. If you can hit it. you can kill it."
and If you can't.....

depends on the mission.
Ive won more mission just by being the first one on site than anything else.
And...if yorue hitting an Atlas with an LCT-1V Locust, you arent going to win. Even if you do hit first.

Kinda.
I have a Locust that has 18 movement with a Lg pules laser. ( and yes it has imaginary armor!) but using that movement ( hell of a pilot in her too, average gunner. ) to hide in the overgrown targets hind quarter I can shoot and scoot while staying out of range of (most) rear firing weapons. ( hoping that I have something a tad larger to keep his front occupied helps too.) I hit Hims, he no hit moi.
Thats the way I like it.
( keeping it clean folks!)

your right.
killing the person WITH Target Acquisition Gear fixes that little problem..
So does counter battery fire.
( Interesting note. beware folks, some of us DRAW arty fire for just this reason!)

You need one heck of a spotter for Arty to be worth anything in a skirmish.
My preference is to sit behind a ridge with a walking MRLS system and wait for my spotters to TAG the bad guys. That kind of Arty works a little better in my experience.
I've never been a fan of the slugfest. My dice don't like me enough (they're still mad that I took them away from their friends in the Axis and Allies box). _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

That's why I built that VTOL Longbow in the design submissions forum. Kind of hard to target counter battery fire against a target moving nine hexes a round. A bit of a "dirty" trick perhaps...but effective

Between gauss and LRM, it really depends on what you're looking for. If you want to pack a good long-range punch, you go for the gauss. If you want fire support and flexibility, go for the LRM.
Also, the LRM is much lighter, which makes it a good long-range weapon for a 'Mech which isn't a dedicated long-range fighter. It might not be as effective at range as a gauss, but it keeps you from being helpless.

What about two Archers backed up by a pair of Hollanders? Both worlds. Myabe not the best of, in the case of the Hollander....

Actually if I had to choose, I'd take the LRM 15. I'm more likely to take the odd Gauss Rifle but the issue is no matter how much ammo I pack for my campaigns, huass rounds are always lacking. So I prefer the LRM 15 due to the fact ammo is cheaper/more common due to the fact you can jiggle 5,10, or 20 ammo into the 15 if desperate.
But thats just me.
