Its Davion for me, maybe its the mass properganda from the videogames which portray them as goodies but i like the way of ruling.
I like them for the same reasons i like the Empire from Star Wars, militaristic and efficient.
However, I also like the Kuritans, they are very stylish and im a great fan of the Samurai and the bushido.
But generally im a Davion. They just seem like my kind of guys, plus Hanse was one of my favorite characters.
Don;t really know much about Marik, but the 'enigma' attracts me.
I don't like the cappellans, seem a bit to underhanded and unlikable, they seem to act like gangsters. Always portrayed as vagabonds and rogues.
saying that they have great spirit and cunning. The loyalty of the people is like the Japanese during the second world war. Which is why both lasted so long.
Stiener are always portrayed as bad in the games, the ones doing the dirty deeds like killing innocents. I don't know very much about the inner workings, just that they have some damn fine mechs and vehicles.
I like the Germanic influence

The Empire and efficent in the same phrase... is that legal. Efficent they are not. I support this with three things that i wish to point out.
1] TIE Fighters. Pilot life excpectancy rates that are prime only is sad.
2] Super Star Destroyers. why build 1 really big ship when you can build 10 semi-big ships for the same price.
3] Darth Vader. Yes he was deathly efficent. key word being deathly. hard to train an experienced officer corp if you keep chocking them.

Really though, watching the films, you wouldn't really think the Rebellion's fighters had shields either...a blast or two from a TIE's lasers knocked them out as well...so really, does it make that much difference? Really, I think the RPG's get a lot of the stats wrong, just based on how things appear from the movies...

A lot of people have speculated that the Imperator-class Star Destroyer was actually a fairly small ship in the Empire's arsenal...a real destroyer...we just didn't see the cruisers and battleships other than the so-called "Super-Star Destroyer" (which many say is a misnomer, and the correct term would be battleship or command ship)...besides, a ship which is better than 12.8 (or 17.6) kilometers long (another thing the WEG RPG at least got wrong...not sure about the D20 version) is hella intimidating...and projecting your power is one of the primary purposes for any warship...which looks more intimidating sitting in your port...a battleship or a destroyer? Irregardless that a few destroyers (at least in modern times) will match the firepower of the battleship, the battleship's shear size and appearance will make people stop and think before attacking...
Besides, look at its armament (at least what's proposed) versus that of the Headquarters Frigate/Home One used by Admiral Ackbar...Home One was 3000 meters long or more, and was only armed with 29 turbolasers and 36 ion cannons (and granted, 10 squadrons of starfighters)...a single Imperator-class Star Destroyer outgunned Home One...
Plus, beside Home One, the Imperial Command Ship doesn't seem so...inefficient to me...size-wise at least...

I'll grant this...but Vader wasn't everywhere in the Empire...and he only choked those who either continiously failed (Admiral Ozzle) or who failed him in spectacurally stupid ways (Captain Needa who failed to capture a single stock light freighter that actually flew right towards him, then "dissappeared" by latching on to his own ship)...

I'm torn.
On the one hand, as a Political scientist, I have to agree that the bureacracy which makes Empire possible is massively inefficient.
On the other, I have to agree with the preceding post.
I think the games and novels have kind of kind of warped our idea of the Star-Wars-Universe-As-Seen-In-The-Movies. After all, the Devestator doesn't seem to be having too much trouble catching the Tantive IV. Despite the size, the Star Destroyer seems designed along almost the same lines as an American Cutter or Coontz class.
They are, however, in the movies refered to as Cruisers (making them more akin to the Ticonderoga class). This would make the Executor a massively too large ship. Certainly a Death Star could be viewed this way. But then, the Empire is ruled by the fear of force. The Nazi army wasn't near as mechanized as the newsreels make it look, but by advertizing the few mechanized regiments they had, the Nazis scared everyone into thinking their army was better than it was. (not to say it wasn't good, mind you.) SSDs and DSs could serve the same purpose.
Same with Vader.
Although the TIE fighters aren't exactly fitting the mood here. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

Well to each his or her own Saber
Besides, the prisoners who survive have to be some of the toughest gus around.
On the Star Wars note, i'm with the parties who say that Star Destroyers are just destroyers...
Specifically, this..

Mercenaries.
When things get crazy in the Fedcom, when the plot twists get simply ridiculous. Then what the hell, why not just pack up the base and move?
The Combine is hiring and these days they like honorable merc units pretty well. And if you're more minded for the periphery, get yourself a job with the Taurians or the Outworlds Alliance and find yourself an old star league cache or battlecruiser or something.
And if those fools in the Fedcom are killing each other off till they've hardly any army left why then the garrison and pirate hunting contracts they'll offer next year should be pretty enticing, eh? _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

Clan Jade Falcon.
Doesn't help that the Jade Pheonix trilogy is being reprinted, and I fell in love with the intricate customs, the constant battling, and the pragmatism. Using a small force to accomplish an objective appeals to me. Also, they are the few Clans that have remained intact and in power after Tukayyid and the Refusal War. And Star Captain Horse is the only freeborn to have lines in the Rememberance, and he happens to be Jade Falcon.....

I voted FedSuns.
It's kind of a close tie as I first came into Battletech through muxing and one of the first house factions I served in was the FedCom. I have always identified with the military might, strategy and piloting abilities that the Davions seem to employ, but NExt to them I also like the subterfuge that the Lyrans sometimes use.
Third in line would be the Dracs as their system of armor is admirable. After that I've somewhat liked St. Ives at least until they were reabsorbed. I hate all things Capie so they stand at the bottom. Free Worlds I am somewhat neutral on and same with Rasalhague, Comstar I can sometimes see myself as and I do not trust the WoBies though

I voted for FedSuns in the poll. I'm a sucker for knights in shining armor, and as the pseudo-English faction Davion got my attention. The McKinnon's Raiders sourcebook solidified my interest, as did the Warrior trilogy.
However my all time favorite faction is the Taurian Concordat. I'm a 3025 traditionalist, so once the '50 tech started to appear I looked around for an "old school" faction. The Taurian Concordat appealed to me based on their fluff text and 3025 tech. I led the TC faction in a MUSH in college and ran a merc game based in the Periphery after college.
