Do what you can, even if all you can do for them is pray.

11,800 so far listed as dead over the region(s) from the tidal waves...I imagine that total is going to rise as time goes by...

I hope for the best for you...but yahoo news is reporting that the total deaths are now around 40,000...Sri Lanka raised their numbers to 18,700 (half of which may be children), Indonesia to 15,000, India's at 4,400 (with another 3,000 deaths among some of its remote islands yet to be confirmed), and Thailand's count was at 1,000 with 700 of those being foreign tourists...
Here is the link with the report:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041228/ap_on_re_as/quake_tidal_wave
Hmmm...I wonder if everyone (and their families) from one of our supplier plants in India made it ok?

I work for one of the main telecom companies in the US and our tech support offices in India are closed. I hope we have not lost any employees.

I got this in my E-Mail a couple of days ago the sponsors are a pacifist group (Quakers) that a freind of mine that is an old hippy sent to me a while back I got on their E-Mail list after I signed an E-Mail petition from them that protested the genocide in the Sudan (while this group is from the left they oppose all war and I oftain find that I am in agreement with them on some issues) They are good people who believe in peace and love with out judgement. If you are looking for a place to make donations to these people are a good choice.
BTW I heard on the radio today that the death toll is now over 60,000.
URGENT: Earthquake Survivors Need Your Help
U.S. Pastor’s Wife Among Those Killed
At this writing, more than 23,000 people are dead and thousands more are still missing after a violent undersea earthquake unleashed a twenty-foot high wall of water that rushed into coastal towns in southern Asia, destroying entire villages and carrying people, homes, and livestock. Hardest hit was Sri Lanka where nearly 11,500 people perished and over a million left homeless. The quake also affected Southern India, Sumatra, Thailand, Bangladesh, Burma, Malaysia and the Maldives.
Tamara Mendis, the wife of a Sri Lankan pastor in Chicago, was among those drowned when the train on which she and her daughter were riding was submerged in a wall of water and derailed. The Rev. Eardley Mendis, pastor of Purna Jeewan Ministries in Chicago, said his wife and daughter were vacationing in their native Sri Lanka.
(To hear Tamara's story from a family friend, go to http://www.faithfulamerica.org/.)
More trouble is expected as waters recede, leaving disease and destruction and critical shortages of essential items.
We are asking for your help in three ways:
One, please CLICK HERE TO GIVE WHATEVER YOU CAN to aid relief efforts. Our sister organization, Church World Service, has established a fund to help respond to this horrific tragedy and its aftermath, and all funds collected through FaithfulAmerica will be sent directly to the Church World Service’s Indonesian Relief effort.
Next, please forward this email on to your friends and members of your faith community. This is VERY important, as it helps magnify our collective efforts at this crucial time.
Third, we ask that you join us in praying for the families of victims and all those affected by this tragedy. CLICK HERE to go to our virtual prayer room for a time of meditation and prayer. The Rev. Barry Lewis, Pastor of the Sewickly United Methodist Church, Sewickly, PA, has offered a prayer and meditation based on one of the Lament Psalms from the Hebrew Scriptures.
For more information on this tragedy and the faith-based relief efforts that are underway, go to these websites:
www.churchworldservice.org

Thank you for stepping up to help in this time of tragedy.
Peace and blessings,
Vince Isner and
the FaithfulAmerica Team

Wondering What kind of changes this will bring around for that area. I would expect it will be pretty significant.

I heard that Amazon.com is opening a link for donations, and that 100% of the donations will go to those who need it most.
Thanks for the donation links, Motown. And for the prayer room. Im by no means a devout man myself, but sometimes I feel the need for prayer.
My Aunt Wanda had relatives vaccationing in the area (the exact country escapse me at the moment) when the Tsunamis hit. For several days we had no idea if he and his new bride were alive or dead. Yesterday Aunt Wanda recieved word that both people were safe and in good health.

One of the top people in the Bush administration, I forget which one, gave some very good advice for all Americans in that part of the world. He simply told them to "call your mother." _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson
