The lifter isn't going into the hole and neither am I. However, the mech recovery winch with several kilometers of safety sheathed monofil wound onto the drum isn't either. It is going to be attached at this end and the hook end is going in attached to the last man. If you guys need to be dragged out, instant tow.
Of course if one of you carries another length of monofil you can attach it to the towline and pull it back once the load, (WIA, KIA, valuables, whatever) gets to this end.
As for the rest of the load there's a welder, a masonry gun, my tool kit and a couple of lengths of chain for attaching the winch to the building.
A flamethrower in case the grey death comes back through the hole.
A satchel charge in case I need to close the hole in a hurry.
A couple of my special smoke/irritant/hallucinogen chem grenades in case I need to smoke something out of the hole.
An assault shotgun in case I have to smoke something out of the hole.
A portable blast shield.
Gage's bed.
And the big stuff on the powerlift is my body armor.
Now all I need is a stool and a drink.

You mean something expendable? Is that why Mordel was packing a red shirt as he dove down the hole first?

Mordel hears the whisper of a droid from someone back in the freeze as he continues to wiggle down the hole. "Why didn't I think of a droid?" he says, wanting to slap his forhead but not really having enough room to do so.

Yeah, but who's gonna drag my half naked, oiled body out of the hole if I knock myself out? Oh yeah, that would be Alexander since he jumped in behind me.

Peeking around the doorframe Kiris surveys the scene of a dozen or so of the best mechwarriors this side of Alshain, all covered in oil and half naked looking down into a hole.
Trying to surpress a laugh, he picks out a vid recorder...
"This must be the funniest thing I have ever seen. I wonder what the New Avalon Tabloid would pay for a copy of this."
"Hmmm, how much could I charge to download if I put it up on the ComStar Internet?"

Three Irish (one of them Canadian) going down a hole? This sounds like a bad Gaelic joke... guess I'd better join in for the Scots!
*looks at hole*
About 2x2, eh? I'm not exactly the skinniest person around, but I think I can get through there without stripping down and oiling up. I mean, Dead-Fish went through, and I doubt he was skivvied down and oiled. Besides, there'll be enough oil in the tunnel from everyone else to slip me through, especially since Alexander volunteered to be "oiled up really good". I'll need to drag my gear behind me like everyone else, though.
*packs gear into bag, except for .45 pistol and Gerber knife. The knife is strapped to the inside left forearm, and the pistol is readied. The drag cord for the pack is tied around the right ankle.*
Ronin looks into the hole, and mutters, "Bladewind, I sure hope that wasn't you I saw eating the Mexican Special earlier!". Before climbing in, he turns to the assembled patrons in the B&G and tosses them a salute. "Chihawk, if I don't make it back, send down one last IBC Root Beer for me before you seal the hole. Thanks."
*Ronin climbs into the hole, and starts to shimmy on down. He soon hits the part that is slick from all the oil and then...*
..."Wooohoooohoooo!!!!!!!!! Watch out belooooooooow!!!"

*chihawk sees Kiris with the vid recorder.
"LURCH! CAMERA!"
*Lurch walks over, grabs the vid recorder from Kiris, and walks back to his spot guarding the door.
Sorry dude, I have exclusive video and audio rights to this. Maybe next time.

(Seraph awakes with a start)
Time to go?
(Looks into the frreezer to see cain and beebles slither down the hole)
Um, oil? No thank you.
(Seraph takes his pack up from the floor and his shotgun from against the table and heads over to the hole.)
Hmm...
(he steps aside as another warrior goeas sliding down the hole)
Not that small.
(Seraph adjusts his pack so the two support bars drop a little to form runners and ties it to his left ankle, using a slip knot in case it gets caught.)
That outta do.
(makes sure his pistols won't slip out of their holsters, pushes his shotguun ahead of him and enters the hole) _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

AllI can say is, I like to be oily and well lubed for expeditions into unknown holes... where anything can happen. And, I am not pulling any other oily man out, (unless it's an emergency, of course!)

::shakes hand in the air to relieve the sting from slapping PanzerMaster, then finishes tying his pack to his ankle::
I'm not all that big, so I think I'll take Ronin's idea and keep my clothes.
::checks to see that pistol is in holster, safes SMG, and climbs into the hole::
Wheeee......!!!

Saberdance wakes up when he hears the smack.
"Hey, Mikey, I think he likes it!" (PanzerMaster can laugh at himself. I think our boy's grwoing up.)
Looking around the room at all the oiled bodies..."What, did I die and wake up in the director's cut of Frank Herbert's DUNE?"
One of the old hands fills him in on the details.
"Cool. It's like a Toga party without the Togas. I'm kind of leary about going down without the armor, but what the heck. You can't dance with the girls unless you go to the party. Hand me the oil."
Saberdance strips down to his shorts, blinding several people with his nuclear farmer's tan, more so once he's applied the oil. Cramming his remaining goods in the pack, including a new short sword he straps to the back of the pack, he places his Fedora on his head and walks to the hole.
"Hey, that hat won't fit!" someone yells. "You'll have to take it off."
"Bull puckey," Saberdance responds. "This hat doesn't leave my head." And with that, Saberdance strides to the hole, and jumps in.
"Da Mihi Fermentum!" he yells....
ugrngksthss. "Darn it! Get your stinkin' feet out of my face!"
