Some of the older mechs are downright nasty. Besides, how could you improve on some of those designs? The Awesome with 3 PPC's it could be an excellent mech if you played it right. Just like the Whitworth, some of the newer mechs just seem to cram on as many ER PPC's and double heat sinks as possible.
Heat was a massive part of level one battles, it hardly features in some games because of the DHS.

You stated that there were a million topics that could be discussed before this one even showed up on radar. So lets hear a few Chi.

You really need a list? How about every other possible topic you can think of related to Battletech before this one?
This question is so asinine that it literally should be the last thing that needs to be asked.

Burt even if this were true those designs wouldn't be "retired", they'd still exist and still be legal for tourney play.

Perhaps we should discuss reading, but because I'm sure I didn't use the word "better".

One thing you can be assured of, if I have an opinion you'll hear about it.

The Grasshopper, per TRO3050 revised has also reentered limited production...

Where? I don't recall seeing that in mine.

Don't recall the location...I only recall the fluff (but it should be the same location, I think) stating it had reentered limited production...
Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the revised 3050 (I read this in a store after someone pointed it out to me) and the original 3050 TRO (which I do have) had slightly different fluff...

The Grizzly is said to be out of production since 3013. The Kodiak is just said to be "pretty new".

I think we're getting two different conversations here.
Some people sound like they're talking about retiring mechs from the game. No more playing with the 3025 stuff.
Stupid idea. 3025 remains my favorite tech base. Playing in 3025 is like playing chess, or stratego, or risk. The deployment and logistical aspects are important, but the guy behind the trigger is the most important element. 3025 was all about playing right.
After 3050, BT became, for all intents and purposes, like Magic: the gathering. It's all about strapping on the right combination of equipment to give your mech that "infinite combo" to ream you're opponents. It became the game of people who sit in the dark all day and read technical manuals to discover exactly what euipment works with what mechs to be completely unbeatable.
If that's your schtick, more power to you, but I like getting out of the house occassionally, and I don't want to have to shell out hundreds of dollars to stay competetive (I mean, I still play with the same rulebook my brother bought 18 years ago!).
Now, if we're talking about retiring mechs in the game, well, for the reasons listed above, you'd almost have to. No matter how good a 3025 Locust was, is can't compete with the Flea or the Hornet with MASC. From a game perspective, there is no reason to keep around the old mechs when all the successor states have managed to reforment their industrial base to crank out newer and better Magic cards...I mean, Mechs.
Ugh. The older and crankier I get, the less the Clan Invasion sounds like it was a good idea. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

You don't like it, don't read it.
Plain and simple.

I'll take a 3025 Pheonix Hawk against any other mech within 20 tons and kick its ass.
Don't retire my Pheonix hawk.

The PHX is probably the closest thing to perfect in the 3025 book. Its a yard stick to measure other mediums by. They CANT retire that one, even in the later readouts, its still combat-viable.
