This is from the New York Times:
"Although the single-season hit record is not as glamorous as some of baseball's power numbers, it is one of the oldest marks in the game. Only three single-season marks are older: batting average, .426, set by Nap Lajoie in 1901; victories by a pitcher, 41, set by Jack Chesbro in 1904; and triples, 36, set by Chief Wilson in 1912."
I think Nap Lajoie is pretty much safe for the all-time record.

I think that Jack's Victory record will stand forever... The pitchers nowadays rarely make 41 appearances let alone wins....

Records are meant to be broken. Out of those 3, it's tough to say which is the easiest to break, because they are all so damned impossible.

I'd say the .426 batting average...that'll never happen again, unless they start shooting promising pitching prospects in AA ball. _________________ "The enemy's gate is down."

The Batting average can be obtained... They just need to be walked more... Like Barry.....

Batting average doesn't take walks into account...and if you walk too many times you won't have enough official at bats to qualify.
