------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
Conceived as a low-cost, multi-role mech, the Soldat ("soldier") fulfills
its purpose well. At roughly 4.3 million C-Bills, it's affordable compared to
other mechs. Its jump capability, near-max armor, dual hand actuators, and
weapons load-out allow it to fulfill its multi-role capacity.
The main weapon is an ER Large Laser mounted in the right arm. Not only
does it provide a fair amount of reach, but because it doesn't need ammunition
it will allow the mech to stay in the fight longer. Backing this up is a pair
of SRM-4 racks mounted in the torso. Each rack has its own ton of ammo,
allowing for some leeway in the types of munitions used. As a last resort
weapon, there is an ER Small Laser in the head.
==Variants:==
There are only two known variations on this design:
SDT-1A: This version has twin LRM-5 racks in place of the twin SRM-4 racks.
SDT-1AB: Only one SRM-4 rack is replaced with an LRM 5 rack.

Simple, i like.
Decent speed, adequate firepower up close.. definately useful.
I can forsee this filling up the ranks in front-line units and being a major mech in second-tier ones.

I got the base idea from the Longshot, one of about 9 mechs exclusive to the original Solaris VII box set. When I realized that HMPro had no listing for it (I didn't see the Paladin in their, either; are the Arena Mechs listed in HMPro, or do I need an upgrade?), I decided to see if I could make something similar and yet make it so that it could be useful outside of the arena.

==Overview:==
The Bai\'ling or NOIR in the Federated Sun is among the latest in Capellen
mech construction. It seems that this mech is the direct opponent to the
recently constructed Soldat built by StarCorps Industries on Crofton. Matching
its opponent design in both speed and versatility, the NOIR is heavier and
more heavily armed. Thou using far more advanced technologies then the Soldat,
the NOIR still falls only 1.3 million c-bills more expensive.
==Capabilities:==
The heart of the NOIR [or Black in French] is the Liao Stealth Armor
surrounding a Endo-Steel Core. Within this core sits an older generation GM
250 Fusion engine that allows the NOIR to achieve speeds up to 86 kph and
powers Chevron I jump jets capable of leaps up to 90 meters, nearly half that
of the Soldat\'s 150 meters. The NOIR maybe less agile then the Soldat, yet it
carries a more powerful weapons load in the way of a ERPPC with an
interestingly designed under-slung missile launcher reminiscent to the grenade
launchers found on modern assault rifles. The ERPPC has a longer range and
higher armor penetration then its Soldat counterpart\'s ER Large Laser. Should
an opponent decide to close the distance to negate any benefits the Stealth
Armor provides, they will be met by both the Short Range Missile launcher and
a Medium Pulse Laser effectively allowing the NOIR to cover all of its bases
so to speak. Should enemy fire penetrate the mechs armor and cause a critical
failure of the SRM\'s ammo bin, a combination of complicated linkage to the
weapon and CASE in the left torso helps to prevent the mech from destroying
itself from the inside out and still keep the main weapon operation, thou it
is safe to say that all pilots are ordered to withdraw at this point so the
unit can be repaired rather then salvaged.
==Variants:==
No known variants at this time.
==Deployment==
The initial run has been showing up in front-line medium units in St.
Ives and along the Capellen-Federated Sun boarder.

You know a mech is good when the enemy goes to lengths to create a counter to it

I like the both of them. Cheap but effective, and mostly energy based, which is always good. The only real flaw is that the Noir lacks full jump.
If the names come from where I think they do, then your naming conventions aren't very fair. I can see it already; two Noir wiping out hordes of anonymous Soldats.
