It is a simple question really.
Which books have the specifics on the various advanced hardware? The Compendium has system information on Pulse Lasers and LBX autocanons, but where do I get information on various other weapons - ER energy and Ultra ACs being among the few examples.
Also, which books would you recommend as reading on the topic of the FedCom civil war?

Can't help you with the advanced hardwrae, I'm afraid - I don't have any of those books either.
As for the FedCom Civil War, the main book you'll want is the FedCom Civil War source book. It gives you a good overview of the whole thing. FM Federated Suns and FM Lyran Alliance are good for telling you what both have got right before the war, but that's about it. If you're looking for BTech novels, the Civil War ones are Flashpoint, Measure of a Hero, Patriots and Tyrants, Call of Duty, Storms of Fate, Operation Audacity, and Endgame. There are a few MechWarrior novels in the Civil War (two, I think), but I don't remember what they're called.

Info on those "advanced weapons" can be found in the latest edition of the rulebook, called "Battletech Master Rules, revised edition"
