Ahhh...jury rigged armor repairs.
I remember when my brothers group took refuge in a warehouse and had to scrounge for armor parts. His Warhammer came out of the warehouse with the words, "Processed chicken emblazoned down both arms and the words,"Lard" on his back. I read it somewhere and had to use it on him. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

"...You know a city is an ideal place for finding ar least a variety of goods for makeshift parts, if nothing else. A good tech can find a wealth of wires, small motors, and building materials that will hold a Mech together long enough to move it out. Anything is better than standing around with your acuators hanging out in the breeze. Yaeh, anything...No matter what Willams says.
"Now, Krieger and Farber are two of the best techs in the sphere, and two of the best scroungers. They got some facing off a wrecked building to cover us. That stuff works, but it needs outer covering, so it was like Christmas to go into a factory and find some truck trailer. It must have been a meat packing plant because the trucks were all painted with product logos. Now, I agree with Williams that there must have been enough plain metal to go around, but if the kids wanted to have some fun, who am I to argue? Hot mechanics are a rare gift, so cut them some slack.
"We left them alone because there weren't enough tools for everyone, and besides, Williams is totally inept at repairs: but don't quote me. When we got back, Krieger was gone. Farber was there, laughing, and asked how we liked the new design.
"Down my wolverine's arms it read 'SpamSpamSpam..." Kilmer's Warhammer looked OK until you walked around it, and the whole rear torso, in big yello letters, screamed 'LARD.'
"We were both laughing, but williams took one look, grabbed Farber's wrench, and chased her until we grabbed him. Up and down both his 'Mechs legs and on its right torso, like a badge it read 'Processed Chicken."

Love that set. Thats the one I cut my teeth on, when I first started playing. I didnt get the standard boxed set for some months. I still have a soft spot for a good city fight......

I remember reading somewhere for repair rules (at least in the original Mechwarrior RPG manual) that a partially successful repair resulted in some permanently lost armor available on the section of mech. Would this be a rule that would cover this situation somewhat? At least without getting bogged down in details?

That's one useful thing. Another one I use is rolling for encounters every campaign day. Technical failure on a mech can be explained in a lot of ways, especially if PCs have rigged non-standard variants.
Jump jets failing to ignite on the BatHawk? Who asked you to try fitting all those electronic packages from the Raven on your new Phoenix Hawk? Obviously the controls got scrambled after the active probe heated up.
The fluff on the Marauder's fire control (and others) is also useful for RPG purposes. Who asked you to fit it with anything else than the PPCs and lasers that it likes?
edit: that's improvised, I don't keep track of everything. Just remember enough to throw out a curve ball once in a while.
