"Cause public proclamation to be made, that everyone strong in body at leisure time on holidays use in his recreation the bow and arrow and learn and exercise the art of shooting - forbidding all and singular on our behalf that they do not after any manner apply themselves to the throwing of stones, wood, iron, handball, football, bandyball, cambuck, or cock fighting; nor to other such like vain plays which have no profit in them, under pain of imprisonment."
Edward Rex, Westminster, 12th day of June, 1369
"He who goes unarmed in paradise had better be sure that that is where he is."
James Thurber
"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote."
Benjamin Franklin, 1759
"The unarmed man is not just defenseless - he is also contemptible."
Machiavelli
And here's a couple of pretty good quotes from the great Theodore Roosevelt.
"There should be at least ten times the number of rifles in the country as there are now."
"A vote is like a rifle: It's usefulness depends upon the character of the user

This will sound strange, but my sons favorite DVD right now is Quest for Camelot (cartoon that came out about 10 years ago.)
It has some great lines in it.
Lady: you're crazy
Thug: I'm glad you noticed, I've been working on it for years...
