The usual setup is 2 mapsheets. I don't see where you are getting 1 from, and for my argument I will not use it.
The 4/6 can get away just fine. It can turn and run, and it need not run directly away from the 3/5.

I didn't specify any definite number of map sheets. And the 4/6 mech can get behind the 3/5 mech and do some damge from back there. The Kraken may be able to flip arm him and still shoot but you can't kick or punch backwards. And the Kraken would have to use all his walking mp's to do a 180 to face the Salamander. Kraken also gets worse mods to punch but does more damage with kicks. And Personally I would not hesitate to get medieval on his arse if he tried to keep up close and personal. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

Also, the Salamander can carry the wide array of LRM munitions available *ahem* Thunder *ahem* and has enough ammo for prolonged use. A good Salamander pilot would have control of the field, regardless of the initiative roll.

Bane would Rule the field, with range and armor.

I have not used the Salamander in all my years of playing, but I love LRM 20s. I have used the Kraken to great effect in some clan battles. IF (notice the if) the Kraken can close quickly without taking too many big hits from the LRMs then it has a good chance of winning. At range the Salamander will win most of the time, especially at around the 7 hex range where both the LRMs and the Med lasers can be fired. Either way it will be a tough match.

Oafman and others are quite right; this is a tough match. I still think the Salamander would emerge victorious, although severely damaged in this match up. Good choice Seraph!
The Salamander's medium lasers should not be discounted since once the ammo is expended or if the range closes, these two weapons could decide the match. The fact that the Salamander has CASE and the Kraken does not is another consideration. Finally, if the Kraken loses either arm, the mech loses 50% of it main weapons. This is not the case if the Salamander loses an arm, even if its is the weapon arm.

Kraken wins this one...only a great Salamander pilot makes this a close battle.

Actually, that's not much to consider. The Salamander's XL engine is out of commission if either side torso blows up. Having CASE won't allow it to carry on fighting.
All clanner mechs automatically have CASE for locations carrying explosive items. The Kraken's clanner XL engine can also survive the loss of a side torso.

Does it really matter. Both mechs are a waste of lead, either mini wise or ammo wise. I mean this would be a Solaris the Reaches matchup that would be hard pressed from sponsers. Boring, Boring, Bad Looking, Rare, Boring, Boring.........
OK the Kraken takes since it has Clan XL and does not die outright.
Boring, Boring,...... Bring on he Stinger Vs Wasp battle.
