It looks suspiciously like the new Canadian Army uniform (which has been out about three years now).
We developed the computer generated camo pattern, the Marines stole it (with a few mods - black Marine Corps badges as the black spots), and now the US Army has it.

Wow...one more thing they can have us carry...Nice though no more black boots to polish...which means more time to train...
Now if they could only get body armor that breathes and isn't so resricting...yes I know I am dreaming...
Now if they could get a bloody AC in my PLS it would make driving around this bloody sandbox a tad better....

It looks like a pastel camo outfit with taupe boots to complete the ensemble....

Urban camo!
It is interesting that after the Marines came out with there "looks almost like Canadian camo", the Army asked them to share. Stating the amount it cost the Corps to develop this pattern, they told the Army to bugger off and develop their own. Possessing both the Canadian and the Marine patterns, I can see how effective they are. However, this one will have to prove itself.
Alexander, I bet we gave the pattern to the Marines in exchange for getting the troops and their supplies to Afghanistan. ( it's a Canadian thing)

I saw an example of the new digital camo pattern a while back. The show had a picture of the 'obligitory serene setting' with some kind of leafy-droopy tree. Some officer type gave the order, and four BIG marines materialized out of nowhere!!
Out of curiosity, what kind of body armor does the military use? The typical Kevlar vest, or something more exotic? I could Google for the answer, but I dont feel like wading through that much extrenuous junk.
I wonder how tough it would be to paint that camo on a mech? And how effective it would be.......

In the old camo specs book there is a picture of a 'mech painted in that sort of blocky camo pattern. I forget which unit it was though...I'll have to check.

I have one question though. Am I the only one who noticed that the American flag on the right arm is backwards? (not being an Army person I do not know if this is on purpose or an accident)

That blocky pattern was urban cammo, and believe it or not, some tanks stationed in Berlin during the Cold War (late 70s) sported it.
As for digital cammo, it's nothing new, the Germans in World War I realized that polygon shapes when seen from a distance blur and the colors mix, and effect discovered by impressionist paintings, they applied it into lozenge camouflage of their planes.
As with lozenge, digital cammo has actually more to do with ease of application than any other factor. Lozenge could be printed with rollers on fabric, instead of having to paint cammo stripes by hand with brushes, while digital cammo results from computer programs that analyze the prevailing background color in some area and print pixels to match the desired color.
I do not doubt it's very effective but it has more to do with the ability of choosing the right color than with the shapes. After all, cammo designers of the past 50 years weren't stupid when they chose tiger stripes, foliage, and pea designs. Blocky shapes stand out when you are close enough, that's why nobody tried to do urban cammo clothing with geometric shapes.. it simply doesn't work _________________ Memento audare semper

I still think the most interesting feature is the chest mounted rank insignia. That's a break with centuries of tradition.
Also, I never thought i'd see the U.S. army in the colors of the Confederacy or Nazi Germany.

No, the flag isn't backwards. The flag never retreats is the tradition, so the flag is sewn on so that it looks as if the flag is going forward (with the stars to the right instead of to the left). Most people think that this is backwards because they are used to seeing the flag with the stars on the left.
The military has had these flag patches on the uniform this way since at least the first Gulf War. It looks normal once you get used to it.

I was wondering if it was something like that. It just looks odd at first.

Shhhh! Don't say it loud, actually the thread began with the introduction of the "Fritz helmet", when the US Army introduces jackboots, then we are in trouble _________________ Memento audare semper

But shouldn't be the flag sewn on the *left* arm?
I think it was done that way in the past
..and a reversed flag is a pirate flag , I think that more likely some subcontractor screwed up _________________ Memento audare semper
