1. How big are the ammunition sizes for the autocannons? I'm assuming that they're the same size concerning AC, UAC, RAC, HAC, and CAC. I did some real-life comparing and came up with:

Light Machine Gun: 5.56mm
Machine Gun: 7.62 mm
Heavy Machine Gun: 10mm
UAC2: 25mm
UAC5: 40mm
UAC10: 75mm
UAC20: 120mm

2. For the missile weapons, I'm not sure at all. They have no boundaries such as surface to air, or air to ground ect.

3. Can someone tell me exactly how large one hex is concerning range? (I've seen ER large lasers goto 1350 meters (Mech2) and 800 (Mech4), so I just figured I'd use the hex values instead.)

4. When saying "click" concerning a kilometer, if something is 15 KM away, it's 15 "clicks", right? And how is "click" spelled, anyways?

If I remember right hexes are 33.3 yards and 3 hexes = 1 football field.

Autocannons I think run from 20-40mm in calibur. I remember the rifleman in one of the Gray Death trilogy novels fired not shells but ammunition cassetts. Each "shot" was a 100 round burst from the rifleman's AC/5. Larger autocannons either use larger rounds or perhaps just more of them for one "shot"

Forget about using real life stuff for BattleTech weapons. For years people have tried to come up with equivellents and have been hampered by differing fluff texts, but basically an AC burst is portrayed as a bunch of small rounds froma single barrel, while a RAC is more like a gatling gun.

What are you asking here?

1 hex is 100 feet from side to side and a game turn in 10 seconds.

Right. A klick is 1 kilometer. I've seen it spelled "klick" and "click", but I prefer it with a K. However in spelling, unless it is being used for dialog, just use kilometer or KM.

Point 1: The BMR-R gives you the ranges of the calibers the ACs fall into...this would be your best bet to go by.

Point 2: The missiles in BT are dumb muntions, with the expection of some speical cases, (Streak etc...) they are not smart weapons and being generic they have multiroles.

Point 3: Ingore anything from the books that come with the computer games. They do not give the correct info that relates to the game. The mess up everything from damage to ranges and weights. Best bet is to forget about them go by the fluff in the TRs or other BOARD GAME releated books.

1. Ballistic Munitions: Multiply the autocannon size (2, 5, 10, 20) by 10. That should give you roughly the size of the round in mm. I'm thinking that the MGs are just generic 20mm armor-piercing rounds like we have now.

(Sidenote: for most ACs and missiles, multiplying the size of the weapon by the number of shots per ton should give you 100. There are some exceptions, tho.)

2. The missile launchers are closer to glorified rocket pods that automaticlaly reload than modern missiles. You could try to come up with specilized warheads on your own time, tho. (I even tried that once. Abandoned it for another project after one of my creations failed the popularity tests miserably.)

3. 1 hex in BTech = 30M from one side to the other. Map scales for other sub-aspects (such as Areotech and Battleforce) should have the map scale listed in the manual somewhere. (Point of note: multiplying the crusing speed of any unit by 10 should give you roughly the unit's maximum movement in MPH. But don't try this with anything from Aerotech; that uses a different map scale.)

BTW, relying entirely on the video games for your knowledge of BTech is equivalent to going through parts of Texas to organize a Liberal Pride march: an open invitaiton to get beaten mercilessly. (I am currently relishing the thought of one such person being forcibly introduced to a maplewood baseball bat for some of his comments on the game.)

In addition to my previous posts, check my website for information on these and other topics.

I haven't finished yet my treatise on autocannons, because it's a lot of writing and I never have the time, however, there's enough done already to grasp the basics
