You try having to closest pro team to your home being a 10+ hour drive and it's been that way your entire life and see how much you care about "pro" hockey.

Whats this hockey thing I keep seeing?  The closest pro team is states away. And even then its about as much fun as watching basketball.

Unless you are in Hawaii odds are there is a pro team in your state or one a reasonable drive away.

Hmm... lets see here, Nebraska no, Iowa no, South Dakota doesn't matter thats too far, Wyoming same as SD, Colorada yes but too far, Kansas no, Missouri yes but thats an eight hour Drive. Get the picture? Unless you're in EXTREME western Nebraska there are no NHL teams a reasonable distance away.
