Hmm, actually you are dooming this mech with dice rolls. LRM5's don't make up for LRM20's and 15's. Doesnt matter how many you have. Ditch them for some 20's with plenty of ammo and support weaponary.

I like the other two Balista machines, but this one has so many dice rolls attached to it, that I would end up screaming in frustration and boredom! BAD BAD BAD! Just use the bigger launchers and stop playing the numbers.

The other two were nifty however, especially the BAL-2 which might be a nasty surprise for someone someday soon...

I do way more damage with this config than with the BAL-2, and since I use a dice rolling program that I just tell how many rolls to make, the dice arent a problem for me If you have a TI calculator, TI-35 and up I think..., I have a prog you''d love for b-tech. Maybe Mordel will finish wading through all the progs I submitted in a giant zip file and get some at least uploaded The TI progs are in there as well as an emulator to use them on a normal computer.

I am a purist. I will not use a dice calculator program unless I am playing online against someone far away. Part of a table top war game is the clatter of the dice, the frustration, the suspense! It makes it far more exciting then pressing some buttons and going "Oh. I hit." Or "Oh. I missed."

Where is the fun in that? There isn't any I say! None at all! take your abomination away from here, sacrifice five chickens, and think on what you have done.

I liked the seperate launchers. I you have an LRM20 and take one crit hit(lucky shot or not) you lost the whole launcher. If you have 4-6 LRM 5's then if you took a crit you'd still have 3-5 launchers and you can still be an effective support unit rather than 70-100 tons of lumbering target.

Well if your such a purist you'd like more chances to hit so you can roll more dice . I use the calc prog mostly to keep hidden dice rolls from my players when I'm a GM. Other than that I just do double rolls, I have a set of green and a set of black dice so I can roll 2 of the same weapons at once, or say green is my gauss and black is my ppc and roll 2 diff weapons. Either way you DIE!! BWAHAHAHAHA!!

i am sorry, if you loose your LRM to a crit then on average it is time for you to retreat from combat. it matters little on if it is a LRM 5 or an LRM 20. a crit is a crit. it is time to run.

What if it was a through armor crit, or a crit in an arm with almost perfect armor on the rest of the mech? You guys both have a point, but circumstances need to be considered too. Don't forget it also depends on how battered your opponent is

Raven points to Ralgith... then looks to Chihawk, "Hey Chihawk, if I cover his tab can you NOT give him any more drinks?"

LOL

Ha, thats fine, but nothing beats the clatter of dice across the table. And I hate people who bring in munchy mutible LRM 5 launchers cause they take about fourty minutes to figure out their hits and such. It makes me insanely mad.

Raven, who would prefer smacking those people upside the head!

I should note, I've never actually used it in play since it would take forever. Only place I use it is on MegaMek

if you noticed i said on average not always.

the two cases you suggest are the odd occurences with being very beat up the norm.

as for opponets condsition. unless i am playing a death match or dual type game i will allow an enemy to retreat or will myself retreat in order to avoid being dispossessed. if i am taking crit then its too close to be riskin my lively hood to bad luck.

Just take this for instance. You come on the field and have an LRM 20. Your opponent has an AC/2. These comprise both of your long range firepower. He takes a potshot at extreme range and gets lucky. He rolls a crit on your torso and you lose your LRM 20, only damage so far on your mech. Would you retreat or rush?
Same scenario, you have 4 LRM 5's and he has an ac/2. He gets a lucky shot and crits one of your LRM 5 launchers out of action. Do you retreat, rush, or stay at range and fire?

your talking a oddball occurence that happens 1-28 or more. [don't know the odd]

if i was in say a Nova D then i would stay in.

what your missing that i now seem to have to spell out is that crits more then 80% of the time occure when the target is taking internal damage; this is the average and not the exception as TACs and single location blow throughs are; accordingly, as the average and not the exception, internal damage crits not only are the more likely to occure but also can be considered the more dangerous. correspondingly, as the more dangerous, it is the one in which my statement was about.

in such a situation it is more prudent to retreat and save your mech then to foolishly throw it away. in the situation you describe my decision would be dependent on what my secondary weapons are and the loadout of my opponet. furthermore, let me point out this much over looked fact and piece of information: an LRM 20 launcher requires less maintence then 4 LRM 5 launchers, and as history will prove, one large weapon system is much easier to maintain the multiple smaller systems.

on that i'll leave you.

Yes Vagabond, I agree. With a normal crit I'd be running off that field as fast as my legs could carry me. And the BAL-3 requires 75% more maintinence than the BAL-2, so yes you have a point there also.
