Wondering what everyones favorite assault mech tonnage is, for purposes of playing with canon designs.

I voted for 95 tons myself, just seem to be the most balanced assault designs are in 95 tons, at least in level 2 play.

I like the lightest Assaults. Others belong to Houses and Clan leaders, as I usually don't play that type (and when I am in Clan Snow Raven, I use medium and light heavies). So I'm going with 80 tons as a default. Closest I can get to my 60 ton Vulture and Dragon.

I voted for the 80 tonners. Only assault weight I can get to 5/8. add JJ's and you have some mobilty in an assault mech. I like the Victor, Salamander, and goliath. Ask me why..lol JK
I feel that that weight is light enough to be mobile and heavy enough to mount some serious weapons.

80 tons. It's simply the best tonnage to be. Some mobility, good armor, good weaponry. You just can't match it with the heavier mechs.

BTW, 75 ton mechs work better if they're 80 tons...

100 tons of pure devastation. Slow, but ultimately lethal. The King Tiger of the battlefield, these mechs are like walking fortress. However, the 80 ton class is probably the best mix between speed, armor and weaponry.

Well if your going to have an assault, might as well go the whole hog and have the 100 tonner. With very little variation in speed you get more armour and weapons.

Although i am partial to the Awesome and Sunder, and Victor and the Mauler. Ok i will stop!

With an XL engine and walking 4, you get more free tonnage for weapons and equipment in a 95 ton chassis, but at 3 walk the 100 ton chassis is better.

I voted 85. A good assault usually moves 3/5. At 85 tons you can add jump jets cheaply to give it adequate mobility if the terrain is anything but clear.
Thr 80 tonners just don't add enough over the 75 tonners to make them worthwhile.
