I resently got back into BT only to discover a wide range of new Lvl 2 weapons

The one that caught my eye was the RAC/5. Very novel concept but is it usable.

I tryed the variant of my fav mech using it

Marauder (I love the Reseen verison of this mech)

Out of 3 games and 12 uses of the cannon in 4shot or 6shot mode it only jammed li like twice and usally got 3/4 of the shots to hit

My option is that this a very hoss system and I am working on a Variant of a Mad Cat that will use one

With that said I also came to one other conclusion. Never mount more than one of these things. Ammo isn't bad at 20 shot per shot but when your chewing through 8-12 a turn..... well you get the idea.

I see people using it a lot, and I would have to say whenever they fire it in 6x mode, it jams at least 50% of the time! So personally, I would stay away from it, or fire it in a reasonable mode and save the extreme for extreme conditions such as near death.

I usually only fire in 2x or 4x mode on the RACs, and I carry 2 tons of ammo per gun also.

Short range and high ammo consumption, but it can be effective. The fact that you can unjam it is the icing on the cake. I never bother with Ultra ACs since they can't be unjammed in battle.

I typically use RAC's in 4x mode, but I'll go up to 6x if I have very good to-hit numbers. I also reduce to 2x or even single at bad to-it numbers. I'll also move up the firing mode on a design that mounts 2 when 1 is jammed. That reduces the loss of firepower conisderably. In addition, if the second one jams, you can attempt to unjam both in the same turn. That gives you decent chances at unjamming at least one. I also think you need at least 3 tons of ammo per RAC5. With only 2 tons you find yourself watching your ammo too closely and dialing back the speed to conserve ammo.

My jamming rates seem pretty random. I've gone whole games without jams or had them jam on the first turn - even in 2x mode. The RAC is a dangerous weapon, but also a risky one for those who use them.
