Mech assault has to be the worst mech game out there. I mean accuracy wise it makes MW4:mercs look great! I mean whats the point in turning mech games into shoot em ups? Your taking away everything which made mech games so unique? Personally i feel that if they are scrapping mechwarrior and commander series, they should at least make a half arsed attempt at a decent mech game. Not give us wow graphics. Personally i think that if they wont make mech games which at least contain some of the uniqueness of classic battletech. Then they should just stop making them!
Oh and just to rub salt into the wounds, mech assault 2 has been annouced. A game that sold 1/4 as many copies as any mechwarrior game and they make another! And scrap the entire mechwarrior/commander lines!

From what I have heard MechAssault has done quite well for an XBOX game. The difference in sales you cite is more likely due to the platform choice than the quality of the game.
Quite frankly it sounds like you're bitter that MS didn't adhere strictly to Btech canon, not that the game is bad in itself. All the independent sources I have read/heard have given it high marks. Maybe you should just enjoy it for what it does offer.

I've not played it, only watched it played, however it didn't look too bad. Also Microsoft has NOT announced that they will discontinue the mechwarrior series on computers. This does not mean they wont, but they havent yet, So, keep hoping for another with me man

I think its just the fact that i do not like Microsoft, so i dont like the X-box.
I hate them for monopolising the market, they seem to buy out anyone who has a good idea (i.e Rare who made perfect dark and stuff)

Oh, don't get me wrong. I hate Microsoft also. I have 2 computers, I run Linux on this one, and Windows 98 on the other just so I can play games. Sad no?

I dont usually judge a game by what i think it should be more like it is, thats why i think that MW4 is one of the best games out. But it is annoying in the respect of the customisation of the mechs. And the lack of freedom as a merc, i mean is Davion or Stiener really a huge choice? In my opinion a mech game should have twice as many chassis, and not try to over expand itself, a game based around solaris would be good. Maybe without the ten daishi's you see every time you play the assault circuit in mercs. To much clan tech.

| I tried a demo for Mech Assault. I didn't like it. Granted, it was only a demo, but still. Not to mention that fact that I also dislike Microsoft, but then, don't most people? Though on the other side of things, I do sort of actually like MW4:Mercs.

Mech assault seems to me to ba an attempt to bring MW and the battletech into what could be considered the 'main stream'. I find it to be bastardized, however. I play the MW games and enjoy the entire experience. Ive played the Battletech game, so I can get the most out of the PC games. Playing just Mechassault and not battletech takes away from the experience.
Mechassault also seems to be, we asked Wizkids but they said no to us using the name Mechwarrior, so were dodging around it this way.

Well Micro$haft was attempting to appeal to a different genre of gamers, I don't mean to offend anyone but don't you think that it's a bit childish to say that they are taking away everything unique about mech games?
Micro$haft is NOT scrapping Mechwarrior (though sadly it seems as though MC 3 is unlikly to be made so long as they hold the licence) Micro$haft was developing MW 5 but put it on hold because they wanted to create a new engine for the game so that those playing would have an entirly new game, not just a new story and some new mechs.

I'm still picking up a used copy of Mech Assault off ebay. Getting it cheap, and I don't even have an X-Box yet (second thing on my list of things to purchase, with first being a new server). Even if it does end up sucking, I'll just give it to a friend or put it back on Ebay.

problem with developers when they say they are putting games on hold is that they never usually go back to them. It seems to be a way to content fans while quietly dumping a particular game.
However, saying that a new engine for MW? I'm prepared to weight, just look at the graphical and technical difference between MW4 and 3. The first time i went on 4 i got a headache! After the roughness of MW3 (which makes it a good game in its own right) you suddenly find a smooth, fast paced game.

strangly I actually prefered the engine from 3 over the 4's engine... something about being able to use the mouse to move the arms just appeals to my gameplay style...

yeah, it did have the edge in some ways didnt it? I loved the effects of missiles on the ground! 4's engine just didnt allow it. And the terrain in 4 was a bit plastic, the trees esspecially looked stupid.

| Three was far superior to four. Mechwarrior three allowed you to move your arms, and firing was just a matter of pointing and clicking on the target. I liked the AI too; it was smart enough that the old "circle and shoot" technique didn't work. You needed to plan your assault carefully, and execute it with precision.

No, i believe that MW4 AI was better, especially your lance mates. In Mech 3 they had very little awareness. I have been in the midst of a battle, and turned round to see all three lancemates blindly following me while some clanner kicks the crap outta their rear armour, and they arent even shooting at anyone infront of them!
MW4 i believe has much more cinematic and atmospheric graphics, nothing more forbodding than seeing the headlamp of an altas lumbering towards you from the central park in pitch darkness. With the strobe lasers and missile arcs blazing behind it. Class!
