What the frap does this mean? Where does it come from? I've recently moved back to western MA and I just saw it painted on a railroad bridge (converted into a pedestrian/bike way) on route 9 in Northampton.
Someone please explain this to me

Hopefully someone can give better details, but from what I understand, this comes from a (sega?) video game from about 15 or so years ago. It is an example of poorly translated Japanese to English text, and it has become a fashionable saying on some (fringe?) pop culture websites and t-shirts, etc. in the past few years.

As far as I'm aware of, it came from the computer game Starcraft, which came out a few years ago. Or at least, that's when people started saying it regularly anyways.

Neg, the name of the game was Zero Wing, and as stated, it was a very poorly translated Genisis game...

Thats a common misconcption as the phrase was a cheat in the game.

The past? It seems like only last year everyone was making fun of the "all your base" stuff. Perhaps I have a distorted sense of time? Or just visit sites that aren't as fast at spreading news?

I think I saw that stuff first back in about 1999 and the hype was old then. It did not officially become recognized pop culture until the last couple of years.

At swome point, I heard about a company that makes figurine bases, a la the hex bases you can buy and fix your mechs to. Last i heard, they wanted to buy or copyright that 'all your base' phrase for their own use. HexBase Hex Base Corp. "All your base are belong to us."
