Happy New Year Everyone!
So, to finish off the year, let me ask another missile boat preference question. With pilots of equal value and facing off hilly or wooded terrain, would you prefer the Trebuchet TBT-5n or the Dervish DV-6M?. Both are missile boats with some close in weapons. Although the Trebuchet is lighter with less ammo, it does sport more armor than the Dervish. Each have their specific vulnerabilities and strengths.
To complicate matters further let me ask this.... if you have lance of a Cicada CBA-3C, a Blackjack BJ-1 and a Hatchetman HCT-3F and were to add one of the two choices listed above, would you change your decision?

I will have to vote for the Dervish simply for the reason that it was the very first mech I have ever piloted. It was also my first win. Nothing like winning your first battle to get addicted to a game.

Actually, their armor values are the same...BV is also only 4 pts less for the Trebuchet...
Still, and all, I prefer the Dervish...I came to love this design not too terribly long ago (I'm sure that jymset, Sir Henry and chihawk, among others can tell you why)...it is a great lance machine, and capable of producing some serious hurtin' on its foes...additionally, it has better maneuverability than the Trenchbucket...
It may not be the best duelist out there, but I'll take the Dervish every time...

The Dervish would be the better machine in that kind of terrain and it should be a better lance mate

Yes, as Ruger mentioned, we proved the value of a Devish in a lance formation.

I'll have to be contrary and pick the Trebuchet for a one-on-one fight. More launch tubes, less ammo to worry about. Balanced backup weaponry. It should have a good chance of winning.
It's even more fun if you pick the SRM-equipped Trebuchet variant. Lots of short-range firepower and the speed to bring it close. This machine would also fit well in the lance you mentioned, to keep people away from the 'Atchetman's paper armor.

Interesting attitude for a Lyran, considering the Dervish is mentioned as being more common in FedSuns. Then again you may be one of the more practical ones

Uhm, neither....
Both designs suck so bad, that I'd never field either by choice, but them I'm not that thrilled with the rest of your linup so..... I think the only design there I like is the Cicada so... and then only that certain varient. The rest of the unit is like a ball and chain tied to the poor Cicada's leg.
If I had to choose between them, I don't think I could. Both have flaws big enough to drive a mac truck through. Between the near nonexistant ammo on the Trebuchet, and the 2 tons of ammo for the SRM's on that STUPID Dervish. These are designs to be laughed at, not fielded.

Tell is how you really feel Death Shadow
AS for the Cicada being better It is a POS, a fat and wothless Locust. That is one design if moved 7/11 would rock.
To me the Trebuchet is a good mech, but is very role specific and needs friends. So by itself or in a wrong lance, it is walking scrap.
So on both counts I take the Dervish. The movement is better and I think better firepower. In that lance you mentioned, the Trebuchet would have issues.
AWAD- Bucket, GDragon, Griffin, and Ostol in once lance is tough

What can I say? The Dervish (especially the 3050 one) and the Centurion are two of my favorite medium 'Mech designs...and they are only produced in the FedSuns...I can respect the machines, if not the state at least...

(chuckle)
Ok Death Shadow..
What other inner sphere mech would you tak ein the 50 ton range that can support a lance as a missle boat?
Both mechs are looked down at, and myself I don't like them much, but then again, I hate missle boats as I think the LRM a particularly ineffective weapon unless loaded with special munitions (ask Chihawk about the rules concerning Thunder munitions and the effect Casey and I had on them).
Head to head.. It is a very even match.. I'd have to go with the Treb, only for its medium lasers up close.
