Did anyone try the BT 3025 MP game that EA was going to launch? I never got the chance as I was on a BT vacation at the time. From what I have read, the common consensus was that it had the makings of an excellent MP platform with superior graphics.
My second question is why did it get canceled? (proprietary rights, Commodore style corporate decisions....)

Awesome game. Good graphics, decent interface. Quite a lot of tweaks to be made still, and LRMs were rather buggy (always hit, could fly through buildings, no minimum to speak of) but the potential was there. The ability to wage war on multiple worlds wih a bunch of people at the same time was cool. Actual combat was lance on lance tops.

Basically they ran out of money, IIRC. The exact story is a bit more detailed, but thats what it boils down to. Damn shame.
IIRC their license expired, which means that any MMPOL version of a FPS BT game would depend on what M$ wants to allow.
More knowledgable people may be able to give more details.

That was an awesome game. Yes, the LRMs were way buggy, doing damage before the actual missles connected. But the gameplay was great, I've always been upset that they canceled it. I wonder if the code is for sale...

Doubt it. Plus using it in any capacity would violate EA's license and conflict with M$'s license. Megamek for instance also conflicts with their license, and I'd bet you they'd land on the MMek crew the second they start charging.
They might anyway if they decide there's a market for a board game simulator.
Or they'll just buy it up.
At any rate, can't hurt to send EA an answer. I'm not a lawyer, who knows?

I wonder if the rumored big budget BT movie being negotiated and expected for 2005 will revive the MP game. Usually, the marketing types can see the potential dollar figures after the first few days of trailers being released. The amount of hype and excitement over the net is somehow transfered into profit.
Or this could be just a nice delusion.

oooh ooh! Delusions! Can I have one?! PLEEASE! lol
Actually i think what it is is that when their is a lot of excitment, the concept of a video game seems to go hand in hand with an action movie (and why not?). Therefore, as a way to make more money they sort of push it. I mean look at sales of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault/Breakthrough/etc when Band of Brothers came out, and Saving Private Ryan and all those other WW2 films. (if i'm remembering the right article. has been a while. If not, then something came out and sales of MoH:AA went through the roof).

That was the game that was supposed to have been based on a game called MPBtech that Mordel and I played a very long time ago, and was the origins of the group I belong to called TBC or The Bloody Clans.
It was owned by Kesmai, and was a CGA game. The game allowed battle over planets etc.. in the names of the different houses, and was actually a ton of fun.
Unfortunately, Kesmai hired one of the players who acted as one of their producers, and they then concentrated the new game on an area that actually had very little draw for most of the old time players. They put alot of money into the Solaris 7 section of the game, which lasted for a short while.
One of their most foolish decisions was to cancel the CGA game because people were still playing it instead of their new Solaris game. Once they did that, they pretty much signed their death warrent.
Eventually FASA picked up the pieces of Kesmai, and tried to finish up a new version of the old CGA game, but they never pulled it off. It got very expensive, and their last attempt was to get it coded in Isreal, but that eventually fell through.
and it died.
Too bad, if the CGA game were available, I know a few people that would still play it from time to time.

Ahhh! I see.... Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, it seems that we shall never see "3025" again. Please let us all pause for a moment of silence as we ponder on what could have been.

Hell, if they ever put the CGA code back up I can gaurantee you there'd be more than a few people playing it from time-to-time. I'd probably be on it every night. Would probably cost a flat monthly rate instead of an hourly charge (thank GOD)!!!
Maybe I could be Captain-General of the Free Worlds League once again.

Looks like some people picked up the torch. Seems to be a project from the ground up, so to speak, but it might be based on the EA code for all I know.
check it out.
Shows promise. Might becomes the FP BT game equivalent of Megamek.
So far it's yet to hate Beta though, so it might just be another of many many online BT projects that never amount to anything.

I loved that game. There were some things that bothered me about it. The Javalin was a hujge isse IIRC, I hated facing thoes things. The most popular version was the one with the 4 Meds. Since all 4 of the lasers ALWAYS hit and ALWAYS hit the same location it acted like a ac 20 with unlimited ammunition. I remember one battle I was in my Panther and I was grouped with a Blackjack, Catapult, and an Orion. Facing 4 javalins, They ran in and wasted the Orion in 1 round of firing. The next time they fired they dropped the Catapult next. By the time it was all said and done we had dropped one Jav and all our mechs were dead. And it was due to all 4 mediums hitting the same location every time they fired.
Aside from that I loved that game (granted it still neede alot of work) and if it had come out I would be playing that instead of EQ.
