Here I am sitting here posting away and BAOOM !!! Something exploded with enough force to shake my house. So I grabs my Enfield and run to the side door after asertaning that nothing had hit my house and it looks to be calm out side I lean my gun against te wall behind the door and go outside to try to figure out what happened .I am scanning the horizon as my neighbor across the street comes out of his house shotgun in hand checking his ride and looking around the out side of his house, he asks me if I know what is happening and at first I had little idea. I had seen a flash to the Northwest as I came out my side door ,then I looked in that direction again and saw flames ...a lot of flames .By that time my next door neighbors were at there window wanting to know what was going on and I pointed to the flames coming from the Northwest and speculated that it might be one of the gas stations on Telegraph RD.So we are speculating as to what is going on as they told me that they had hit the floor when they heard the explosion .They come out on their front porch and my neighbor across the street puts away his shotgun and come across the street to talk to us .He offers to give me a ride to see what happened, and I agreed. So he gets dressed.(he was in his pajamas and robe)and I put away my rifle and we go out in his Bronco. We get on to Telegraph and head north and sure enough a Mobile station that was closed after it had been firebombed in a robbery attempt a couple of months ago had gone up, the end of the block is now a mass of flames and twisted wreckage.I am scanning the conflagration with my binoculars. What a mess! The power in that area is out because the flames have taken out the power lines. The gas station is about half a mile from my house as the crow flys and I FELT IT! I wonder what it was like for the people who lived next door to the place.Fourtionatly at midnight on Thanksgiving there is not much traffic so there appears not to have been any damage to vehicles on Telegraph.I am curious to see what it looks like in the daylight.

Here in West Bloomfield sleeping away, I did not hear a thing. What was the cross street?
AWAD- I did feel when the Alfred P Murray building was leveled.

| The explosion was between 5 and 6 mile roads nowhere near you.

How did that happen? I thought those stations are supposed to be safe, with all kinds of precautions.

some one left the gas for the grill on when he rocketed out the door for Turkey Day. Fuel Air explosions displace a LOT of air, that is why you noticed it so far away. The neighbors probably have to replace windows and such.
Another reason to invest in kevlar drapes?

| I came back from the site a short time ago the restaraunt is pretty much flattened and scattered all over. The gas station I thought was involved is one block north and is unaffected.I was surprised to discover how much was unburnt considering the amount of flames that were present immediatly after the blast.I understand that an old(possable homeless)man was seriously injured by the blast as he walked by the place
I have one inch Acrylic in my windows ,that can stop most hand gun rounds,so I do not worry to much about explosions

Tough Neighborhood? Paranoid? I like the idea myself, how much more do those windows cost than normal? They have to be custom made, right?

Just remember to reinforce your walls so they're at least as tough as the windows.

| Actualy they are not that much more than standard thermopanes and infact it is a rather simple refit if you already have thermopanes. All you have to do is buy Acrylic sheets the same thickness as the glass insert and cut to size and you can instal them in the existing frame and if you want to spend a little more you can get GE Lexan it costs about three times as much and is twice as strong. One side benefit is that it is a more effective barrier to cold than thermopane glass if you have the skills you can do it yourself. It can be cut with a standard circular saw with the proper blade.
