|
|
As this is a forum, I have to take isue with the common use in novels and other stories of the "hit and spin" event when a target is struck by two rounds. Unfortunately some of the Btech writers fell into this trap. Usually it goes like this, "the first shot hits the target in the shoulder, causing him/her/it to spin around. This is then followed by the second round hitting in the back or chest/abdomen area depending on the direction the target is facing. It does not happen that way!
Sorry, for years I have been raging aagainst this misconception and today I came across it again. Fortunately, I was able to vent.
Thank you for listening.

I believe this most unfortunately written event is due to the author's being denied the Child's Toy known as the "Sit and Spin" even though they wrote Santa three years in a row.

GO new guy Go, Vent , man let it ride and get it out. Maybe with a pair of 20s to the same side I might see it, but that is. But another trap is the sudden duck as a flight of missles go over head.
AWAD-come on, writers gave us the Stackpole and jump jet burn attack

the old Virtual World tesla pod battle tech simulators would spin your oponents mech if you hit with 28 or more points of damage on one side.
I often set up my mechs with a spin trigger to cool down (many of the mechs could be set up this way) and alpha strike trigger, and a long or short trigger, depending on the mech.
I could alpha strike, spin him off target and then get a second alpha strike before having to duck for cool off. most times I would have the mech dead by the third alpha strike. fourth if it had heavy armor.
I know the europeons hated the tactic, and the japs would set up 2 spin triggers and keep you dizzy.
