I could explain but...
" Oh Lord and mighty Mordel,
Please bless this unworthy wretch that he may have your knowledge and guidance in understanding your most holy and private domains. teach him to better take care of his knowledge and lead him to your blessed understanding. "
A-men...

As for Munchkin, it's sort of tough to explain as I think people have their own interpretation of it. For me, in BattleTech terms, a munchkin would be someone that creates a 'mech with 12 medium pulse lasers and enough double heat sinks to cool down to zero each turn even if they jump the 5 movement you know they'll have. Essentially creating a design for devastation factor rather than for gameplay and playability. In many peoples opion, Pulse lasers and the targeting computer were the biggest examples of munchkin that were created.

To assist you with the second question..."Munchkins" usually refers to those who are under a predefined age (usually pre-pubescent). In the growth cycle, you start with anklebiters (I know, I have one). They then become childabeasts, especially when they form herds in places such schoolyards. It is at this point when the munchkinism begins to surface, some faster than others. Hopefully this will help sort things out.

My definition of munchkinism differs from Mordel's only in that I believe a munchkin is someone who can only play a mech that has every advantage, usually based around weapons that do 12 damage or more. They like to take advantage of holes in the rules, which allows them to add to the randomness of the game.
but then again, I've always been a laser boat kind of guy...

Driving a laser boat doesn't make you a munchkin. Heck, driving a laser boat with a TC doesn't make you a munchkin. BUT, driving a laser boat with a TC EVERY time you play makes you a munchkin.

A munchkin is someone who plays only to win or I should say only to whoop up on his opponents. Like previously stated he or even she will always be running something like a Clan Dire Wolf packed with Large and Medium pulse lasers, a TC and maybe a Gauss or PPC.
These are the people that laugh when they do 45+ points of damage to your 'Mech at long range but yet cry when you hit them with a couple of MLs and there is a slim chance that you might get a critical hit on their precious TC.
BTW, most players have gone through a Munchkin phase at one point in time or another.

Some amount of munchkinism is fine. Everyone likes to try to build the perfect mech. But most munchkins overdo it. They're the ones with the custom tech, the overblown home rules, and refuse to play anything resembling a balanced game.

I am still trying to figure out the whole easy win concept. Where is the fun in that? Just had a game last Saturday that lasted a good 6 hours and was still undecided up until the second to last firing round. There is nothing better that almost being out of the fight and getting that one lucky head shot or critical roll that turns the tables on an opponent.

You'll find the people that use the munchkin tactics to try and get easy wins have very little in strategy. Put them in a 3025 mech that overheats and they'll dies within the first 30 minutes of game play.

I like it when I win with an Inferior force. An example in a recent battle the opposing force was an elite Clan Wolf Asault star plus a single medium mech (I do not know why he added that mech). My force a light aerostar and a light vehicle star from the 2nd Flurrys galaxie old star league equipment with some minor upgrades( mostly replacing star league armour and weapons with clan equivalents.)The fighters were all under 30 tons and with the exception of two Kangas so were the vees they included two Gabrials and two Beagles. At the start of the match the Wolf players were laughing and predicting that my Flurries would all be gone in two rounds. After a cluster bomb attack (my pilots were so bad I figured that no way could they expect to hit with standard bombs and eight brutal rounds their last mech finnaly fell (he refused hegira he said no way could he surrender to warrior wannabes) I had five fighter a crippled Kanga and a damaged Cyrano left but I denied them the road and claimed their Dropship as Issorla,Using green warrior wannabes driving scrap yard refugees. My GM gave me a lot more respect after that one.

I have learned one thing from playing this game all these years. Prediting a victory does not guarantee a victory. This is coming from someone who has learned the hard way. Humilation comes down hard when the die roll does not.
