Hello! I'm in dire straits now. I'm on the virtual edge of sanity. Let me explain my problem to you...
Flashback Sequence Beginning....
So, there I was yesterday, at my local computer goods store, and I said to myself, "Self, I should really buy a better video card."
That's when I replied: "Self, that's a grand idea. Let's do it."
Then I pulled out my wallet and proceded to purchase an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. (Hey, I'm not made of money, much to my wife's chagrin!)
So, there I was this morning following the instructions in the installation guide for once, to my downfall. You see, as I was going, it told me to first remove all my old graphics drivers then install the new card. Me, being the trusting idiot that I am did as I was ordered by that stupid little book. So, I happily uninstall all the drivers, pull my computer apart and put in the shiny new card.
I'm feeling happy with myself, and turn on the computer. So, the New Hardware Wizard pops up, and the bookk says to cancel it and move onto page 13, and istall the drivers off the disk. So, I'm humming a jaunty tune and trying to install the disk, when I get an error message, that it can't install the drivers until I have a Standard VGA driver installed. That's when I go back a page, and see that I was actually supposed to let the New Hardware Wizard go, to install the Standard VGA Adapter. Therefore, the book lied to me initially, and I should have read all the way to the bottom of the page before running around pretending that I know anything about computers.
So, I tried to pull up the Add New Hardware Wizard, and it doesn't find the new video card now, and it's nowhere on it's list of things available, so, now I'm stuck.
Whatever shall I do?
Alexander (the Melodramatic!)

Let me fling my barely adequate knowledge of PC's at this issue before more knowledgable persons have a chance to tell you something useful.
When you load up Windows in safe mode, it should *always* have access to the standard VGA driver. When in safe mode, make sure you uninstall the video card device, and reboot the comp. That should bring the New Hardware Wizard up again.
After that you can install the proper drivers.
You can also be balsey and try to install the new drivers in safe mode.
Use the above at your own risk. I recommend waiting for additional advice. And if all else fails, re-install Windows.
Paul
