Of course they are. The movies would have to be a week long to come close to capturing the power of those books....

No kidding. Its like Jurassic park Decent movie (even with all the errors) but the book was absolutly outstanding.
Ill admite that its been a while since I read the books, and at this point since I live the movies so much I probably wont read them as I would hate to ruin my image of the movies . That and since Im rereading all the battletech novels I have (and trying to finish my collection of them) Ill be busy for a while. After that I plan on reading The universe in a nutshell by Stephen Hawkins.
But anyway. The Trailer is fantastic. lots of emotion and the scens they show are truly stunning.
All I can say is
"DAMN I cant wiath dill DEC 17!!"

Actually, in this case, it took me so long to get through the books that I actually prefer the movie version...
Although I usually go the other way in this kind of thing...

Agreed on 12/17...I was salivating over the stuff seen in the Two Towers DVD...
As for the third novel, I finished it for the first time a month or two ago...

I agree that the books were better, but with kids not being able to read you have to expose them to decent literature somehow.
Tolkein did something pretty amazing in his spare time. Tolkien built up the world over years of spare time. Those who wondered how the D&D guys went of into a different world might be able to understand now.
Such depth of development had to result in an awesome movie.
I am just glad that the fans of the books and the staff of the movie were working on the some wavelength. The word of mouth from the D&D'ers and Tolkein fans could have killed the movie if that hadn't been the case.

Well Christopher Lee is one of the Senior members of the Lord of the Rings Fan club and has been for more than 4 decades. He would have gone ApeSh*t if the Pete and the Gang had tried to mangle it. He has read the Trilogy every year since about 1935... or something like that....

The first part was magnificent, but the Two Towers was a disappointment to me. There seemed to be a lot of things changed in order to make a "better" movie. It didn't sit well with me, or those of my friends who have read the books even once.
I'll still go watch the last part, of course. It might be fun.
