The VooDoo crew plays mixed level 2 and 3 set in the 3060s. We like to build our own mechs and use some book level 3 mainly XXL engines Compact gyros and laser AMS level 3 movement rules are also used at our table

We play Level 2 with modified and home grown 'Mechs, though FanPro standard 'Mechs always outnumber them. We occasionally do Level 3 stuff, though never many rules at once.

Though, I guess I should use the past tense on those. Should get a game going again...

I voted "Homebrew 3050," which is probably the closest to what I like. Considering I've made up a bunch of rules and equipment it should be no surprise that I like to see them used.

Second to that would probably be pure 3025 games, which are still quite fun. My least favoirte is pure 3050 games, because if you know what you're doing you can easily munch out your mechs in one direction or another.

When I make a scenario I generally use 3050 tech, the mech selection filtered of course, with a little L3 tech and a little homebrew thrown in. Most people don't like L3, but there are some gems such as turrets, LAC's, caseless AC's, and torso-mounted cockpits (all of which should be L2 IMO).

I really only play with canon 'Mechs and vehicles (although a few rules changes are in order). I get to play so rarely as it is, that playing against someone's new uberdeathmachine just doesn't appeal to me. And then there is the fun in using a subpar machine and still winning.

Although I prefer 3025, I think with all the toys available in 3050+ the game is a bit more complex and challenging.

All hail Brother Bodhi! I prefer 3025. And I wouldn't mind newer stuff if it wasn't for the combo of Pulse and Targeting Computers you always see. Talk about turning a fun, strategic based game into a boring dice rolling contest.

Lol!! That is something I agree with as well. I dont mind Lvl 3 play I just hate pulse lasers. its to the point where I will remove them from design's and I almost NEVER (now remember I said almost) use them in designs. I dont like them in the role playing game and I really dont like them in the dice game.

I am happy with anything really. from Lvl 1 3025 to Lvl 3 uber mech's.

To some degree I can agree with you. but as I said somwhere before the player makes the game NOT the equipment. My biggest beef is those "folks"( keeping it clean) who want to quote/debate rules more than play. The FUN part of the game -+ IS +- the playing the game not having a 1 hour discussion on the variants of what rule should apply where.

Burns the back of my front

It was that kind of rules lawyering that drove me from the tournament scene totally. I don't know how many times we'd have a table for 4 hours and never get beyond turn 3 because someone would do the lawyering bit, grind the game to a halt for 20 minutes while the ref argued, both sides dug around for a rule in the book, and argued some more. Between the rules lawyer and the week-willed ref who wouldn't say, "hey, I made my ruling. Debate it with me after the game or leave," it just got to the point where I was unwilling to pay 20 bucks just to watch them argue and not let me play.

AMEN to that! wWth the varied styles of play out there you have to be flexable. In our group most of the guys will load up on pulse weapons and TCs when the go against me because they know I am going to throw the fastest stuff I got out there and you need that just to have a chance of getting a hit now against another guy in the group who uses assaults and hardened armour a lot it is ultra 20s, rotorys ,and heavy guasses because againts him gatting the hits is easy you need to hit him REALY hard to get an effect.Me I like to use very fast mechs close to point blank quckly and rip and roar with massed batterys of ER and Heavy small lasers backed up on some of the hotter running designs with light machine guns.I also like to use my speed to get back shots.I make heavy use of TCs so I can make the most of my large numbers of small weapons, and while that was not my intent I have found that the large numbers of small weapons have a side benefit of getting numbers of crits.I usualy run 'Ice Hellions so fast mechs are the rule and I have several designs of my own that carry that to the extream (referance the Blizzard omni I posted on the design forum.)people have differant styles that require differant counters.
