Originally, this machine was designed to kill 'Mechs mounting XL engines, though I think it has enough power to stop anything with a concentrated torso smash. I'm not sure I'm completely happy with weaponry though. Any thoughts welcome. I imagine I should move some weapons into the arms, I kept them free for close combat, but at 3/5/3, that's only like in forests and cities.

I like yours Vagabond. I'm not a big fan of missile weapons (not that they don't have their uses) but I think I should look a bit more at your HeartTaker. It's got some good design features.

As for a Tom Petty 'Mech...well, I don't know much about them, but could be fun to design some 'Mechs around a band...

How is this? A compormise of sorts...

Note: If you don't like the normal AC, switch it out for an LBX. I just like normal ACs, especially with the new ammunitions.

Once you get down to 80 tons I'll buy! I've long thought that the Hatamoto-anything chassis would be perfect as the basis for a real killer mech. Time to dig out the designer...

i just kept the heart of your design idea, an xl hunter. i just figured BIG GUN, so i upgraded the ac 10 to a 20. then settled on the lb 20-x because of its range of 12 vs 9. Was going to drop the ER MLs for MLs but decided not to to keep them in line with the AC. then i had an idea while looking over the weapons, the best way to xl hunt is to hit when you target. so switched out the hot er ppc for a cooler LPL that gives -2 to hit. then lastly i was looking over the design going TO HOT! so i decided to drop the ER LL, settling on a missile weapon to reduce the direct fire weapons load on the TC. lastly i tossed in FF because i had 14 crits left and could use an armor boost.

hmmmm.... well its got the weapons. its got speed, but its missing the heart [pun intended] of the idea. the TC.

For that much speed, you might get away with a light engine.

on its own thou, you've got a well rounded design. infantry be weary.

I was justing trying to fofill Nightmare's request for an 80 tonner. by leaving it at 3/5 movment and 3 jump I could've had the exact same weapons as the 85 tonner. I was just adding my own little touch to it, I'm a big fan of jumping mechs (though oddly enough most of my designs lack JJs) I design a lot of mechs but feel most of them aren't up to standards. Theres a lot of design talent here and I often find that I've designed a great mech... and someone has already posted it, or it's an FASA design. a perfect example of that is the Marader III I posted. I hadn't checked the Project Pheonix updates before posting it.

post them anyway and let others tell you they already exist. lol.

i've done a dozen accident remakes. but when you don't know, and design an already existent good mech. then your on the right track.
