The Major limps into the Bar and Grill after finally being released from the hospital, leaning heavily on a cane. His face is grim and he seems to have aged a considerable amount in the few scant weeks since he was last there. Behind him walks Marshall Harewood, who seems almost as defeated as the Major.

He walks over to his table, sits down and lays his head in his hands. Those who are closest think they can hear quiet, almost silent weeping. Marshall Harewood hands a small noteputer to Chihawk, which then slowly makes it's way around the bar, as everyone reads it.

For a few scant moments, the bar is silent.

"Initial hopeful results were unfortunately in error. Damage sustained by the subject is severe and irreparable. The paitient no longer has the physical control necessary to operate a BattleMech via the neurohelmet interface system. No possible treatment at this time to restore neuro patterns or fine motor control. Perhaps such technology will be availible in the future.

The patient will not be able to sustain combat duties. Suggested he ramain as the command staff, or be discharged.

-Dr. Janet Mayo
NAIS"

Sir Henry slowly walks over after everyone has read it. "Joe...I'm sorry."

The Major sits straight up, his face streaked with tears, but even still, the spark of defiance is there. "There is nothing to be sorry about. I stood up for my beliefs and I paid the price. Many people will not stand up for the things they believe in. Adversity breeds strength..."

OOC: Well, I stood up for what I believed in. Too bad it didn't really exist. My ex-girlfriend and I are truly over now. Just another example of my love life in shambles. I suppose this will teach me something. I'll get over it. Blah, blah, blah.

But how do you know when it's really the one? This time I knew. I was wrong as well. What keeps me going I guess is the fact that I know so many have suffered far worse than me. But I suppose, from my biased viewpoint, I just get more than my share of grief. *shrugs* I know it's not true, but still, the biased viewpoint always remains doesn't it?

IC: "Drinks all around on the Marshall." The Major stands. "I am not yet a cripple, sir. What is my assignment for the day?"

OOC: How will you know when you've found "the one"? She'll tell you. At least that's all I can figure so far. I've had more than a few "I thought she was the one's", and although it is painful to go through, I've always found someone better the next time around. So in my twisted logic of sorts, I figure that each time things don't work out, someone better is waiting for me.

IC: Ronin sits in shocked silence. He wants to say something, but what do you say ina situation like this? Imagining what he would be feeling if he were to lose his wings (even though he is primarily a mechwarrior, Ronin values his wings more), he can imagine the sense of loss that the Major is going through.

"Damn, they've got him piloting a desk!" Ronin whispers to himself. "All because of some frickin' simians that got their drawers in twist. The same frickin' monkies that shot (is that even the right term?) me down."

With a final swallow from his bottle fo IBC Root Beer, Ronin stands up from his seat and walks over to Joe's table. With the best military crispness that he can muster with his sides still bruised, he executes as near a perfect salute to Joe as possible. He then pulls up a chair, orders a round of drinks for all at the table, and looks a Joe.

"Don't believe a damb word of what those docs tell you. I don't give a rat's a$$ what piece of paper hangs on their wall, you ignore them. Now if you want, I can get a access to a command model Battlemaster. I'd be proud to have you in the top seat, and when no one's looking, I'll let you have the controls. It make take a bit, but you'll get your piloting skills back if you just work at it hard enough."

Ronin stands up, and heads over to the holoprojector. Ignoring the "Do NOT change the channel" sign, Ronin scans through the available channels until he finds a movie from the pre-FTL days of Terra. Some of the patrons protest because they can't watch the latest Solaris matches, but Ronin gives them a look that inidcates that he has something better in mind plan. As the opening titles begin, Ronin returns to the Major's table.

"This is an old 2-D movie I came across during my studies on Terra. The title is "True Grit". Just watch it, and remember, if he can do that with teh primitive medical technology they had then, you can certainly pilot a mech again."

*limps over to the majors table and hands him a bottle of Souix City Cream soda*

"I'm sorry man... I don't have anything inspiring to say... but I agree with Ronin, I'd be DAMN proud to have you in the top seat of a command model Battlemaster. but hey, with my recent hovoercraft incedent at the NAIS campus I won't be in the cockpit of a mech for a while myself."

OCC: I'm REALLY sorry to hear that, if you need to talk, I'll try my best to be here for ya. and if I'm not online, feel free to e-mail me.

*I sit at my table and look at the trio off young battered warriors*
{This is ramlatch I had to play macho and turn down Joes offer of aid when I went back to the B & G with Ronin now look at them if only I had said yes then both of those guys would probably be alright. Hell Joe is a Major and he can not even drink legaly yet man he must hav been a little kid when he first climbed in a cockpit.}
*I Think of the people in the VooDoo Crew My own unit *
{Shoot he must have started about the same age as Nightengale}
*As I think of the sweet looking girl in the VooDoo crew who is even younger than she looks but at age 12 is an absolute terror both inside and outside her Brown and black Atlas*
*Gets up and walks over to the table with the three young guy fighting to hold back the tears*
"Man I am sorry I wish I had been more carefull maybe you would not be in this shape"
*Loose fight with the tears*
"Man I wish I had accapted your offer to escort me back to the B & G maybe you two would not be in this comdition Man I am sorry"
*Sits in chair head down on table crying heavily*
"I'm sorry "

even if you can't pilot again, several of the best leaders couldn't pilot anymore. Look at the Comstar fellow, he stopped the clans for christ sake. if its a desk your piloting, then i'm gonna look out for that desk. it'll be the most dangerous desk in the federated sun.

*sips his tea*

docks said i'd never get proper eye control. that i'd never walk again. that my odds for proper arm control where nill. buggers said i'd never sun bath again. you know what i am.

even if its not a mech, theres still tanks and stratigic command.

*stands up, placing down his tea*

and damnit, don't you ever say it was for nothing. you saved alot of good men, several of them my men. you did right, better then most would.

ooc- theres no such thing as the one. there is no magical person out there. relationships are a tough and require hard work and dedication. both sides have to be willing to give to the other without an alterior motive. selfishness is the #1 destroyer of relationships.

so that said, we move one. myself being christian beleave god does have someone picked out for use. but this one is never a 'the one'. so roll with the blows. wait sometime, and go in swingin.

Now i sir salute you. you did somethin most won't. ya stood for what you believe. now are you always right, no. can you be pig headed, yes. but your not sitting on the fence allowing every breeze to dictate your beliefs.

do your crying, its health. greave, it calms the heart. annilize your life, everyone should. learn the lessons, then get over it.

as my support group says.... its ok to have bad days, just not bad weeks, months, or years.

god bless dude.

lata.

Mo, there's no need to apologize. We all made the best decisions that we could at teh time with the information that we had at the time. The results may not have been the greatest for us individually, but we did save teh B&G, and all of the innocents that would have been harmed had we not intervened. We know and accept the risks everytime we strap ourselves into a cockpit, be it a mech or an aircraft or whatnot.

We can sit around all we want and second guess our actions during the battle. Or we can take what has happened, and charley mike as best we can for the future.

*in the background, John Wayne can be heard on the holovid projector repeating his character's mantra "I'm gonna move that big toe!"*

We can learn a lot from movies, believe it or not.

*Ronin orders another round of drinks for everyone at the table, as well as some food*

"Bah. It's not your fault Mo. Imagine if I had escorted you...no one else knew about that battalion coming into to Montenegro. Had I not done the Recon and fought a bit of a delaying action, Stinger could not have gotten his forces there. Had they marched all the way here...well, it would have been bad. Those damn monkeys..."

The bar goes silent. "Yes damnit I said it! I've faced those bastards and I ain't afraid to say it anymore."

"...they tied us down with infantry to try and slip their true resources behind us. And they almost did. I got lucky, and spotted them."

"As for my injuries...I'm a solider. Everday I go out, and I fight to protect House Davion...to protect the Federated Suns, to protect my country. And everyday it could be my last. I accept it. I regret nothing. So don't you go and get all down on account of me. Else I'll take you out back and beat some sense inta ya!" The Major smiles at Mo. "Okay?"

OOC: Actually, the Major is in his very late 20s, thirty-ish. I'm 19 though.

Stinger sits there stunned. Sipping a white russian he thinks to himself and whispers, "I should have found him sooner." Shaking his head in frustration his cell phone rings.

"Hello" he replies in a dull voice. "Oh, hello professor. Yeah?" He gets up from his table and walks outide to finish the conversation. As he walks out a smile spreads across his face. "Really. Excellent. look I have a favor for to ask you."

The patrons contine talking to Joe, as Stinger paces around the front of the building near the road. A couple of patrons notice that Stinger has hung up his phone and seems to be taking a couple minutes for himself. He turns and steps back into the BnG he walks over to Major Harewood and Joe.

Saluting crisply he looks at them both

"Joe I cant help feeling that if I had found you sooner that they could have done more for you." Stinger raises a hand as Joe starts to protest.

"I know what your going to say, in my mind I know i should have done better" he pauses and looks at Joe. "As you know I have been testing the attack choppers. That call was the designer of them he is bringing in a new company of choppers for us to field test. I lost 1 pilots and 1 copilot in the last attack so I am going to be extra an Apache, The ones we are using now are going to be sent back with the exception of a couple. But if you want and if the Major agrees one of the new birds is yours. We have a accelerated traning program that I can run you through. Takes about 4 weeks and youll be comfortable enough to take them into combat. And when used as planned the Apache's are brutal. strong fast and can hit hard. They are also superior scout units. The new ones have Mast mounts and Bloodhound's mounted there so the professor tells me." Pausing he wipes away a couple tears. "I know its not a mech. But as far as piloting goes. At least you dont have to pilot a desk. Yet."

Smiling Stinger hopes the major dosent take offence to the offer.

"I worked it out with him at the end of this test they are going to go into production and these are going to be given to my unit. I have had him release one that will have your name on it along with a copilot of your choosing to be trained along with you. I'm covering all the expences and as soon as you take control of the unit it will be yours and your original units to do with as you see fit."

"Just say the word and Ill get the nessessary paper work started."

OOC. I am really sorry to hear that my friend. But the pain does go away, and her loss is some other womans gain.

OOC. Ill post the design as soon as i get the HMPro Plus I orderd.

*I look up at the Major*
" Ya you are right I suppose that it could have gotten real ugly If we had had to face that hoard in the parking lot that van is not a combat vehicle but I know what those monkees are all about now so next time I will be ready I still have my old Solaris mech and the Goldbug is still a formidable machine its an old JRF-7F but I did a few mods on it like double heatsinks so next time..."
*listens to Stinger make his offer to Joe*
"You know in some places flyboys get more respect than mechjocks "
*points to Ronin*
"You aught to take this nut for your co-pilot maybe you can keep him out of trouble...Yeow right like that could happen"
*Sits for a moment looking at the others*
"You know I am old enough to be your father ,maybe that is why it bothers me so much to see what happened to you guys,Tell you one thing choppers do the recon job a whole lot better than mechs .Speaking of recon...
*Looks at Ronin*
"After you did your little aerobatic stunt I had to release my sensor ballon so I could saveyour sorry butt,"
*Turns to Stinger*
"I wonder if there is any way you could help me find that thing that sensor pack was not exactly cheap and it was proving quite usefull until I had to jettison the thing"
*Gives Ronin the beady-eyed stare*
"The concept of recon ballons dates way back to the 19th century but is still usefull 12 centurys later that pack had visable light ,IR ,and low-light video camaras, radar, and micro-wave sensors and I would realy like it back."
"Hey Henry maybe you aught to get a rig like that for here on a 150 metre teather I was able to cover an area 5 kilometers in radius."
*Turns to Joe *
"That is why I was able to give a report to you about what was headed your way before I had to release it"
"I think what is needed know is to analyze what happened during the battle so that we can avoid making the same mistakes.Because I have a feeling we have not seen the last of those monkees."

"Well I can help look for the baloon but if you havent found it by now it may be gone."

Thinks a minute as he listens to the others conversing. Grabs his cell phone and kials a quick number. "Hey Bos, Devlin. How many of the extra Bloodhound pods do we have sitting around?" Listens and a smile plays across his face. "Ok good what about the 'missing one', Oh we found that? Good ok forget the paperwork and bring it out to the BnG for me a friend of mine needs it. No, no It was missing remember. Yeah get it here in a hour or so." Turns to Motown "Well Its not a recon baloon. But the Bloodhound should be decent."

"Well it does not have a lot of range . but I bet it could prove handy for scounging though old battle fields and ghost towns for salvage. Thanks .That balloon rig is dragging a 150 metre armoured cable that is like 2 centimetres in diamiter so it should not be too hard to find it comes in hand when I am scouting planets in the outer perephery because like I said I can cover a large area quickly

Mo, It'd be easier to tap into the Traffic Cams, Weather sensors and the other monitoring equipment used here on Solaris. It's quite extensive, But the Officials don't care for it much....

Joe, You'll Pilot a Mech again. I can almost guarantee it. If I have to make shunts and jumpers to do some power assist, then so be it. Recon is a valuable asset, you did good. I'll see what I can dream up to add a little more protection for the Mech....

OOC: Joe, At least you can go out and find someone else. Some of us don't have that luxury...

"Well like you said the officials do not like it when you hack into their stuff .You let the balloon go up and you got a birds eye view and if something looks interresting you can zoom on on it .What I like to do with mine I use it when I am looking for salvage on planets with little or no population is drive out park start scanning at low magnification and if something looks odd I zoom in for a closer look .That thing is primarily an exploration tool that is why I had to let it go after Ronin crashed"
*Gives him the beady eyes again*
"I can normaly only move at a top speed of 35 Kilometers perhour unless I have a tail wind and less with a head wind .It is not really intended for combat sevice but on a fixed structure it could really be an asset.

I use it to find anomilys because that is where you find the interresting stuff and lets face it thats how I pay my bills.when I get that thing back or get a replacement I am going to put a tracking beacon on it because that thing is some thing I use a lot.

"If you want, Mo, I can get a crew to rig an airplane to recover the balloon for you. You just put a grabber thing on the front, and then fly up and snag the cable and bring it back down. Just say the word and I'll make it happen."

"Being part of an Apache crew would be a dream come true, but I'd have to lay aside some important duties to do it full time. Stinger, I'd be happy to fill in on a temporary basis if you need a pilot. I should be cleared for flight status again in about a week. There ain't no fooling those flight surgeons, but I bet you already knew that."

Laughing at Ronins comment. "No kidding they are just as bad if not worse than Mech doctors. During my training I crashed the trainer and hit my head, I couldnt pilot for a week."
