------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
In order to deal with the high heat load caused by the weapons, the
Grasshopper was forced to carry a considerable amount of heat sinks, which
tied up tonnage. By converting over to double heat sinks, tonnage was freed up
for additional improvements.

The large laser was upgraded to an ER model in order to better supplement the
LRM-5 rack. In addition, the unit was fitted with an SRM 2 Streak rack with a
ton of ammo and CASE in both side torsos. This was done in the belief that
with the Streak present, that the pilots would be more inclined to use it
instead of the ER large laser, which causes more heat to be built up than the
original model. As such, the unit is one heat sink short of meeting its full
heat.

In a twist, the decision was made to give the unit an ECM system as well as a
BAP. These two pieces of electronics, mounted in the limbs, allow the unit to
be more effective in combat. The ECM makes the unit even harder to hit, and
the BAP gives the unit an advantage in areas which offer opponents many places
to hide. Also, the unit's already thick armor was thickened by another half
ton.

I have to give this one thumbs down for purely selfish reasons...I like the 5H and 5N so much that I won't even give other varients a second glance.

I agree with Chihawk, the design is quite nice, but I simply adore the older models too much. Easy to get, cheap to own and operate, and able to show "the new guys" a thing or two. And the PPC carrying one is just sweet.

               BattleMech Technical Readout

Type/Model: Grasshopper GHR-5N MK2
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3025
Config: Biped BattleMech
Rules: Level 2, Modified design

Mass: 70 tons
Chassis: Mingh z33/7 Standard
Power Plant: 280 VOX Fusion
Walking Speed: 43.2 km/h
Maximum Speed: 64.8 km/h
Jump Jets: 4 Leviathan Lifters Standard Jump Jets
Jump Capacity: 120 meters
Armor Type: Durallex Heavy Standard
Armament:

  2 PPCs
Manufacturer: Lantren Corporation
  Location: (Unknown)
Communications System: Allet-C308
Targeting & Tracking System: Allet-T11

==Overview:==
When it first appeared on the battlefield in 2786, the Grasshopper was
revolutionary design. Though it had a mass of 70 tons, it was jump-capable.
heavy 'Mech, with all the firepower and armor of its weight classification,
GHR-5H was designed as a highly mobile close-range fighter.
When considering simple, cheep, and benafical upgrades to this aging u
in 3048, designers all agreed that the single most benafical upgrade would
to add DHS.

==Capabilities:==
The Grasshopper once was not heavily armed, but it could keep up a muc
higher rate of fire than many other heavy 'Mechs, giving this 'Mech a
reputation as a high intensity fighter. The GHR-5N MK2 is not much differen
with the only substantial change being an almost doubling of offensive
firepower.
Its ability to operate independently makes the 'Mech useful as a raide
and guerrilla fighter. Instead of relying on long-range bombardment to weak
the enemy's defenses, the Grasshopper relies on surprise and superior mobil
to overwhelm its victims.
The Grasshopper is also famous for its ability to outflank an enemy an
attack from the rear. Though light and medium 'Mechs have always had this
ability, the appearance of a heavy 'Mech with jump capacity required a comp
revision of lance tactics.
These features where preserved when upgrading the unit. Designers redu
the weight of the coolent system from 12tons to 3tons. This in turned allow
the addition of a second PPC and 2 additional Medium Lasers. Inital plans
called for 5 Medium Lasers but was rejected do to the emense load they woul
place on the coolent system.
This has boosted the mech damage potential by more then 50%. Several
pilots like this upgrade and several orders have been placed for upgrade ki
already.

I am torn I like the mech but I {CENSORED} LOATHE THIS MECH. A buddy of mine used this mech to pulverize me on several occasions, infact this mech made me appreciate heavy jumpers. They are both nice designs though.
