Ola to all,
Boy has the board seemed to die off. We need more new blood, so go recruit you bastards.
But on to my idea.
As you know I hate DHS. That did more damage to the system than XL ever did or will. But the DHS do allow some fun. Many people mention part of the fun of the game was playing with heat. But how about this idea, a Mech Coolant Flush. I know there is something similar but by books are packed and I have not looked at them since Christmas.
Idea is 1 ton, has to be in torso, and has 3 ammo. During the heat phase and before and rolls the pilot can activate the flush and it drops the heat to 0. So you can still play the heat game but adds a dimension, do I flush at 10 or 18 heat? Of course if it destroyed you are foooooked. To add to it once destroyed it adds 3 heat. Does not count as an engine hit but reflects that you lost some coolant and your system is not running at full.
So let me know what you think.
AWAD- Come on Stalker, drop some little crap and add me a Coolant flush

I am pretty sure some 1 shot cooling pods exist already. I dont think they are as powerful as your design, though.
I like the idea, but I dont like that if the pod is hit, your heat goes up. This is where I see this thing.
Picture the entire 'mech cooling system as a long verticle tube. Normally the tube has coolant running up and down it, being all cool. On top of the tube is this 3 shot coolant pod. The pod only interacts with the tube when its activated.
Thats just my view on it, though. In a way, it would make sense to have the thing "act" as a single or double heat sink under normal duties. But then it can be activated when it needs to be. When it is out of ammo, then it should stop counting as a Heat Sink (of whatever type it is).
An additional thought. Single and Double pod/flush things. The double pod still only carries 3 shots, but takes up more room or weight because it has to be attached to a more delcate and complext heat system. The Double Pod has to be hooked up to double system.
Anyways, just some random morning thoughts

I can see that being horribly abused by Munchkins all over the place. We'd go back to the days when a Clan 100 tonner carried 10 LPLs tied into a TC. Build up 12 heat in a turn and then flush the system and repeat the next turn.
What I could see better is each time you use the flush system it drops heat say 3-5 points. Not enough to be unbalancing as much as useful. That and maybe make a critical hit be explosive like the Level 3 Coolent Pods are.

Vibromines take care of those mechs...
Then we make take as good as they give, whether they like it or not...

Vibromines are set to go off when a mech of a certian weight or higher goes by. Thus 100 ton Clan Mechs set them off and they go BOOM, and the Clan Munchy mechs go down with loud thunderous falls. Much to their demise and our delight. THere for we gave as well as we will be getting.

I dunno. Is the inconvenience of facing a few vibramines really worth facing another Clan Munchmonster?
I like the idea of the Mech Flush System, but it needs some finetuning in my opinion.

Few? Nah! Thunder rounds loaded with Vibros, start out with a many hexes, and always create more. And if there are moutains and other terrain to herd them on a small path, that's a lot of fun.

I think the original Solaris VII box set intro'd the concept of the coolant pod. I'll have to check, but I think MaxTech also has the rules as well.
IIRC, they are a single-shot mechanism that cools for ten points and violently explodes when hit. Only the Colossus (the King Crab/Marauder II mating) uses them officially.

there from the THB, tactical hand book.
and if memory serves, the increase your heat dissipation by 1pt / hs for that turn. when hit the exloded like ammo, doing under 10pt of dmg. weighed 1 ton, took 1 crit.
that all i can dig out of my brain.

I will surrender that point. The part of it being a heat sink until all coolant is gone is to complicated so making it a separate piece that interacts only when activated works fine. So then I will take someone else’s idea and say it blows up for 10pts of damage when destroyed. We can say that the coolant is very compressed thus goes off like a cannon when it is hit.
This idea is for single heat sink systems only. DHS already has the advantage from hell. As for munchkins, they will find a way around anything and abuse it. I like the complete cool down idea since you can play with heat more. Because if you do let say 10, or equal to the heat sinks had, then it is not as fun. Because then you know it is only 10, then you do not toy with that 20 range on the heat scale.
Since My books are still buried, has anyone gone a looked them up yet?
AWAD- have not had a Btech fixes in 6 months, will take care of it in 3 weeks.
